Forget the Steam Machine: This hack will let you play Steam games on PS5

PS5-Linux Project: Transforming Your PS5 into a Linux PC

If you’re eager to play your PC games on your couch but don’t want to wait for Valve’s Steam Machine, there’s a new open source project called ps5-linux that might pique your interest. This project allows you to run Steam on your PlayStation 5 by transforming it into a Linux PC.

The ps5-linux project works by exploiting a patched hypervisor vulnerability in the system, granting access to the console’s powerful hardware. With this hack, you can utilize the PS5’s eight CPU cores running at 3.5GHz and GPU clocked at 2.23GHz to run Steam games and various emulators. The project also supports HDMI 4K60 video and audio output, and you can use an M.2 SSD as a dedicated Linux partition.

However, there are a few limitations to keep in mind. The project is currently only compatible with the original PS5 model, commonly referred to as the “PS5 Phat.” Additionally, your PS5 must be running on 3.xx or 4.xx firmware to use this hack. The developers are exploring the possibility of expanding support to other firmware versions in the future, but for now, these are the requirements to get started with ps5-linux.
