Gemini on desktop could soon get Gemini Live, Magic Pointer, and voice dictation

The Gemini desktop application for macOS is on the brink of introducing a suite of innovative features that promise to enhance user experience significantly. Following the unveiling of Gemini Spark and advanced voice functionalities at Google I/O 2026, anticipation has been building for their integration into the Mac environment, and it appears that this moment may soon arrive.

New Features in the Pipeline

  • The Gemini app is reportedly in the testing phase for several new functionalities, as highlighted by a recent report from TestingCatalog.
  • Among the most awaited additions is support for Gemini Live, which has been notably absent until now. This feature is expected to adopt a user interface reminiscent of its mobile counterpart, presenting users with a blank canvas and Gemini Live controls conveniently located at the bottom of the screen.
  • Another exciting development is the introduction of a system-wide voice dictation feature dubbed “Speak to Window.” This functionality will empower users to utilize Gemini’s voice typing capabilities across various applications on their Mac. With the ability to set up a hotkey, users can seamlessly switch between their browser or text editor and begin dictating their thoughts, which Gemini will transcribe in real-time.

Furthermore, the desktop version of Gemini may soon incorporate a feature that allows it to track the user’s cursor, providing contextual assistance based on its location. This functionality is reminiscent of the Magic Pointer feature that has been teased for Google Books and is available in certain regions on Chrome.

Additionally, a new option within the Gemini toolbar labeled “Connect another Mac” has emerged. While the specifics of this feature remain somewhat ambiguous, it hints at the potential for Gemini to control another Mac, a development that could open up new avenues for multitasking and collaboration.

Currently, these features are being evaluated by a select group of users, and while there is no definitive timeline for a broader rollout, the community eagerly awaits further updates as they become available.
