Mixed Reception for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls on Steam
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has made its debut on Steam, but the response has been less than stellar, with a wave of mixed reviews stemming from various issues related to the PC port. Known for its prowess in the fighting game genre, Arc System Works, the developer behind the beloved Guilty Gear series, had fans buzzing with excitement when they announced their collaboration with Marvel, especially following the success of Dragon Ball FighterZ, which many considered a superior entry compared to Marvel vs Capcom Infinite.
Despite the initial enthusiasm, the reality for PC gamers has been disappointing. The game currently holds a “Mixed” rating on its Steam store page, with 1,565 reviews reflecting a divided player base. Although Arc System Works implemented some performance fixes, these adjustments have failed to significantly improve the situation.
One of the primary hurdles for players is the requirement of a PlayStation Network login, which has inadvertently limited access in several regions lacking PSN coverage. For those fortunate enough to gain access, reports of technical difficulties have surfaced. Users on forums dedicated to fighting games have noted issues such as micro-stutters and dropped frames during online play, which also impacts PS5 players participating in crossplay. A particularly frustrated user remarked, “This game is aggressively hostile to Linux players for absolutely no reason,” highlighting the unexpected challenges faced by a segment of the gaming community that typically enjoys compatibility with fighting titles.
As the PC platform has become increasingly integral to the fighting game scene, the shortcomings of this port are particularly disheartening. In response to the growing concerns, Arc System Works has acknowledged the performance issues on their official Twitter account, stating, “We’re aware that some PC players are experiencing performance issues. The team is actively investigating these reports. Please keep your feedback coming in; it helps.”
In the midst of these challenges, the Marvel franchise continues to thrive elsewhere, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day already emerging as the highest-grossing movie of the year and on track to potentially surpass the all-time record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the US box office.
