Android users can now add Oklahoma Driver’s License, State ID to Google Wallet

Eligible Android users in Oklahoma can now seamlessly integrate their driver’s licenses or state ID cards into Google Wallet, a move that enhances the accessibility of mobile credentials across the state. This initiative follows Service Oklahoma’s announcement in September, which revealed that residents could also store their identification in Apple Wallet.

While the convenience of digital IDs is on the rise, it is important to note that residents must still carry their physical driver’s licenses or state IDs, even when they have been uploaded to their mobile devices. Notably, participating Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints, including Tulsa International Airport and OKC Will Rogers International Airport, are equipped to accept these digital IDs, along with over 250 airports nationwide.

Enhancing Digital ID Accessibility

“Digital ID becomes more valuable when more Oklahomans can access it, and more places are equipped to accept it,” remarked Diedra O’Neil, Chief Executive of Strategy and Operations. “Expanding to Google Wallet gives more Oklahomans the choice to securely carry and present their identity in a way that works for them.”

As the availability of digital IDs grows, Service Oklahoma is also supporting businesses and organizations in adopting this technology. Their free verification app, “Oklahoma Reader,” allows businesses to confirm transaction details, such as age verification for customers aged 21 and older, without retaining customer data or transaction records. Guidance from the Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission (ABLE) facilitates the electronic acceptance of digital credentials for age and identity verification through ISO-compliant readers.

Digital IDs stored in Google Wallet are safeguarded through encryption and require personal authentication for access. Users have the ability to review the information requested before consenting to share it, ensuring a secure and controlled experience.
