MTN Nigeria, in partnership with ONErpm and Ultima Studios, has crowned Ayodeji Benson, affectionately known as Ayo Benzi, as the inaugural champion of the Next Afrobeats Star reality show. This momentous occasion unfolded during a vibrant grand finale held at Ultima Studios in Lekki, Lagos, on December 13, 2025, capping off a nationwide talent search that commenced in September, attracting over 15,000 aspiring musicians.

Celebrating Talent and Ambition

After weeks of auditions, mentorship, and intensive training, five finalists—Ayo Benzi, Dave Cash, Kaeko, Somto O’Laker, and Lucky Yay—took to the stage in a dynamic showcase of their artistry. In an electrifying contest, Ayo Benzi emerged as the standout performer, securing a lucrative ₦150 million music deal. Following closely, Dave Cash claimed the first runner-up position with a prize of ₦100 million, while Kaeko, Somto O’Laker, and Lucky Yay received ₦75 million, ₦50 million, and ₦25 million, respectively.

The contestants benefited from the guidance of esteemed Afrobeats producers, including Sarz, Puffy Tee, P Prime, and Andre Vibez. Ayo Benzi, who was mentored by Puffy Tee, expressed gratitude for the program, highlighting how it honed his skills and enhanced his stage presence.

During the event, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, Chief Marketing Officer of MTN Nigeria, emphasized the initiative’s role in empowering youth and fostering cultural expression. “The Next Afrobeats Star platform is about creating real opportunities for young Nigerians and giving their talent the structure, visibility, and support it deserves,” she remarked. She further noted that the finale represented not merely a competition but a celebration of growth and readiness for the global stage.

In his heartfelt acceptance speech, Ayo Benzi characterized his victory as a pivotal moment in his career, extending his gratitude to MTN for their exceptional support throughout the competition. “A big thank you to MTN. The finale was further enlivened by guest performances from Afrobeats luminaries Iyanya and Bella Shmurda, adding a touch of glamour to the evening and reinforcing the show’s connection to the broader music landscape.
