In a recent survey conducted by GameDiscoverCo, intriguing insights into the gaming habits of Steam users have emerged. The “Steam Fan Snapshot” survey, which gathered responses from over 16,000 participants worldwide, reveals a clear preference for PC gaming among its respondents.
Survey Findings
According to the data, a significant 42.4% of Steam users engage exclusively with PC gaming, steering clear of both console and mobile platforms. In contrast, only 15.6% of those surveyed reported playing games across all three major platforms—PC, console, and mobile.
Simon Carless, founder of GameDiscoverCo, shared these findings on the 16th, emphasizing the methodology behind the survey. Participants were recruited through online giveaways, and their responses were cross-referenced with actual Steam library data, ensuring a robust analysis of gaming habits. The criteria for platform usage included playing games on a specific device for more than one hour each month.
The survey results indicate that an impressive 91.5% of respondents play games on PC for at least one hour monthly. A closer look at cross-platform usage reveals that the second-largest group consists of those who enjoy mobile games alongside their PC experiences, accounting for 22% of participants. Meanwhile, 11.5% of respondents play both PC and console games but do not engage with mobile gaming at all.
However, Carless cautioned that the survey’s focus on dedicated Steam fans active in online communities may skew the results, suggesting that these figures might not fully capture the broader tendencies of all PC gamers or the general Steam user base.
This comprehensive snapshot of gaming preferences offers valuable insights into the evolving landscape of gaming, particularly among the passionate community of Steam users.
