Just over a year after the successful launch of its debut title, Tales of Kenzera: Zau, Surgent Studios has taken a bold step forward with the announcement of its next project, Dead Take. This first-person psychological horror game promises to delve into the shadows of the entertainment industry, revealing its hidden truths beneath the glamorous surface.
Exploring the Dark Side of Fame
In Dead Take, players assume the role of an actor on a quest to locate a missing friend, last seen at a lavish party hosted in a “dark, opulent mansion.” What initially appears to be a glamorous gathering has turned eerily silent, setting the stage for a chilling adventure. As players navigate from the mansion’s entrance to the depths of a theater, they will encounter a series of object-based puzzles, piecing together video clips that unravel the mystery of the mansion’s unsettling past.
While reminiscent of classic titles like The 7th Guest, Dead Take distinguishes itself with its promise of a haunting narrative grounded in real experiences from the entertainment sector. The game’s Steam page highlights the intricately designed 3D environments, inspired by authentic film sets, where players will explore tools and props that enhance the immersive experience. Accompanying this journey is a chilling original score composed by Ross Tregenza, known for his work on acclaimed titles such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Cyberpunk 2077.
As anticipation builds, Surgent Studios has hinted at an impressive lineup of actors who will lend their talents to the project, with announcements expected in the coming weeks. “We’re being secretive for a reason,” stated Abubakar Salim, founder and CEO of Surgent Studios. “The subject matter of this game is delicate, and it hits close to home. When it comes out, and it won’t be long until it does, I want players to think, ‘I can’t believe they actually did this.'”
Originally teased in January without a title, Dead Take marks the first collaboration with Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld, under its new publishing arm. Salim expressed confidence that the game’s unique narrative will resonate with players, describing it as “short and weird,” and emphasizing the importance of the story they aim to tell.
With a release date set for later in 2025, Dead Take is currently available for wishlisting on Steam, inviting players to prepare for an experience that promises to challenge perceptions and evoke deep emotions.
