EA makes job cuts at Respawn

In a recent announcement via Twitter, Electronic Arts has confirmed that it is implementing layoffs at Respawn Entertainment, the studio renowned for its work on Titanfall and Apex Legends. The decision to reduce staff is linked to the discontinuation of two “early-stage incubation” projects, a move that the company acknowledges was not made lightly.

Impact of Layoffs

According to reports from Bloomberg, approximately 100 employees will be affected by these job cuts. Among the projects shelved is an extraction shooter set in the Titanfall universe, codenamed R7. Despite these changes, Respawn has reassured fans that its commitment to developing Apex Legends and its Star Wars titles remains steadfast.

In addition to the layoffs at Respawn, Electronic Arts is facing broader reductions, with estimates suggesting that between 300 and 400 additional positions are being eliminated, primarily within the company’s Experiences team, as reported by IGN.

Justin Higgs, a representative from EA, commented on the layoffs, stating, “As part of our continued focus on our long-term strategic priorities, we’ve made select changes within our organisation that more effectively aligns teams and allocates resources in service of driving future growth.”

In their Twitter post, Respawn expressed their gratitude towards the affected employees, stating, “These decisions aren’t easy, and we are deeply grateful to every teammate affected — their creativity and contributions have helped build Respawn into what it is today. We’re offering meaningful support to those impacted, including exploring new opportunities within EA.”

Looking forward, Respawn emphasized its unwavering dedication to delivering player-first experiences. The studio reaffirmed that innovation remains at the heart of its mission, guiding the development of both evolving live experiences and the creation of new worlds and narratives.
