Here’s every game that Silksong’s surprise release has delayed as indies scramble to escape its powerful aura

In the realm of video games, the anticipation surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong has created a ripple effect that is reshaping release schedules across the industry. This metroidvania title, which has garnered significant attention since its surprise announcement earlier this month, has prompted at least eight other games to adjust their launch dates to avoid competing directly with it. While no actual harm has come to these titles, the metaphorical casualties are noteworthy, as developers scramble to find a more favorable window for their releases.

Stomp and the Sword of Miracles

Originally slated for a Kickstarter launch on September 12, along with a demo on Steam, Stomp and the Sword of Miracles has now been postponed indefinitely. Developer Bee Braun expressed the sentiment of feeling like “a little krill trying to not get eaten by a blue whale,” highlighting the overwhelming presence of Silksong in the current gaming landscape.

Faeland

After more than seven years of development following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Faeland was set to debut on September 9. However, the team has opted to delay its release, stating, “We’ve poured years of work and love into Faeland, and we want to make sure it arrives at a time when it can receive the attention and care it deserves.” A new date is anticipated but remains unannounced.

Aeterna Lucis

The sequel to the acclaimed Aeterna Noctis was aiming for a September release but has now been pushed to 2026. Aeternum Game Studios cited Silksong as a contributing factor while also noting the lack of necessary development kits for a simultaneous launch across next-gen platforms, creating a situation where multiple challenges converged.

Meanwhile, the popular multiplayer climbing game, although already released, is feeling the pressure from Silksong’s impending arrival. Publisher Ysbryd initially considered launching Demonschool in close proximity to Silksong but later decided against it, stating, “We would not be doing Demonschool any favors by wading into waters we can clearly see are blood red.” The game is now set for a November 19 release, allowing for a more strategic positioning in the market.

Little Witch in the Woods

The charming life simulation game, Little Witch in the Woods, has also adjusted its release date from September 4 to September 15. The developers expressed their admiration for Silksong, stating, “Given its immense influence, we fear that launching on the same day would not only dishearten our dedicated team but also disappoint our devoted audience.”

Additionally, Bennett Foddy’s open-world walking simulator, Baby Steps, has shifted its launch from September 8 to September 23, further illustrating the impact of Silksong on the release calendar.

Moros Protocol

Lastly, the sci-fi shooter Moros Protocol has opted to delay its release from September 4 to September 18, ensuring that it launches under optimal conditions for success, which notably means avoiding a clash with Silksong.

As the gaming community eagerly anticipates Silksong’s arrival, the reverberations of its influence continue to reshape the landscape, prompting developers to rethink their strategies in an increasingly competitive market.
