Transforming the Indian Indie Game Landscape
India’s indie game scene is poised for a significant evolution with the inaugural Indie Game Utsav, set to take place at the Mumbai Comic Con on April 12-13, 2025. This festival will showcase an impressive lineup of 40 homegrown PC and console games, marking a pivotal moment for independent game developers in the country. The venue for this groundbreaking event will be the Jio World Convention Centre.
With support from industry giants such as Xbox, Xsolla, and Nodwin Gaming, the festival aims to address the persistent challenges faced by indie creators. In a landscape where PC gaming accounts for 22 percent of India’s video game revenue and boasts a global Steam player base of 132 million, the Indie Game Utsav serves as a vital platform for emerging developers to gain visibility and traction.
The festival promises to deliver unparalleled opportunities for Indian indie developers, facilitating direct interactions with renowned international publishers including Krafton, Epic Games, and Devolver Digital. In the lead-up to the main event, developers will have access to networking events, pitch sessions, and skill-building workshops designed to enhance their craft and expand their reach.
Among the pre-event activities are a two-day session hosted by the Swedish indie publisher RawFury, specialized workshops by Epic Games, and a vibrant Game Maker Mixer. These initiatives are tailored to foster collaboration and innovation within the indie game community.
“Indie Game Utsav wants to pave the way for upcoming quality indie games from India to find success,” expressed Avichal Singh, the festival’s founder and co-founder of Nodding Heads Games. This sentiment resonates deeply, especially in light of the recent triumphs of titles like Raji: An Ancient Epic, which have showcased the immense potential of Indian game development on global stages.
