Mortal Kombat 1 has recently become the latest title to fall prey to the notorious cracker voices38, who successfully bypassed its Denuvo anti-tamper protection. Released for PC in September 2023, this marks a significant milestone, as it took nearly three years for the game to be cracked. The previous Denuvo-protected title to meet a similar fate was Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, with only a 21-day interval between the two events.
Interestingly, voices38 has also made headlines with a crack for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, although this title had already been cracked by CPY back in late 2016. This context emphasizes the uniqueness of Mortal Kombat 1, as it had not been compromised by any other group prior to this recent development.
Publisher Responses and Trends
Warner Bros has previously removed Denuvo from its older title, Mortal Kombat 11, raising questions about whether the publisher will take similar action regarding Mortal Kombat 1 following this crack. The company has also eliminated Denuvo from other titles such as Gotham Knights and Back 4 Blood, indicating a potential shift in their stance on the anti-tamper technology.
Other publishers have followed suit in removing Denuvo from their games. Square Enix, for instance, has stripped it from several titles, including:

- Resident Evil Village
- Resident Evil 2 Remake
- Resident Evil 3 Remake
- Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
In addition, KRAFTON removed Denuvo from The Callisto Protocol earlier this year, while NEOWIZ followed suit with its game Lies of P. Gearbox also eliminated it from Homeworld 3 in October 2024. Recently, IO Interactive made headlines by removing Denuvo from 007 First Light, and Bethesda has done the same for titles such as Wolfenstein Youngblood, Ghostwire: Tokyo, Doom Eternal, and Doom: The Dark Ages. Bandai Namco has also joined the movement, removing Denuvo from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.
