Microsoft Announces Global Price Increases for Game Pass Subscriptions
Microsoft has recently revealed that they will be implementing price hikes for their Game Pass subscription service across all existing packages for console and PC users. As part of these changes, Xbox Game Pass For Console will be discontinued, with a new Standard tier introduced for console players. This new tier will provide access to the Xbox back catalogue but will not include day-one access to new games.
For PC users, the price of Game Pass will be increasing from .99, €9.99, or £7.99 per month to .99, €11.99, and £9.99. Additionally, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes PC Game Pass, first-party games at release, cloud gaming, multiplayer, and the back catalogue, will see a price increase from .99, €14.99, and £12.99 to .99, €17.99, or £14.99 per month.
Microsoft has provided a detailed breakdown of the price changes by region in a downloadable PDF document. They have also released a FAQ regarding the changes, including information on how to cancel subscriptions. New subscribers will experience the price changes starting from today, 10th July 2024, while current subscribers will see the changes reflected in their first recurring billing charge after 12th September 2024.
It seems that Microsoft is looking to generate more revenue for their subscription business, especially following their recent acquisition of Activision-Blizzard for .7 billion. As the subscription model continues to evolve, it’s likely that further changes may be on the horizon for Game Pass users.
