Total War: Warhammer 3 developer Creative Assembly is taking measured steps to address the challenges of what they describe as “a frustrating year.” In a bid to enhance communication with its player base, the studio has unveiled its latest update, which aims to tackle some of the most pressing issues with the upcoming hotfix 6.3.4, tentatively scheduled for early November.
Addressing Key Issues
At the forefront of Creative Assembly’s agenda are solutions for idle armies, ongoing recruitment challenges for the Chaos Dwarfs, and enhancements to the campaign AI for the Ogre Kingdom’s newest legendary lord, Golgfag Maneater. However, players may find that their current playthroughs could be irreparably affected by these changes.
Adam Freeman, head of community for Total War: Warhammer 3, expressed the team’s commitment to transparency following a series of bugs and glitches that have frustrated players. He provided an extensive apology and hinted at significant announcements coinciding with the Tides of Torment DLC set to launch on December 4.
Freeman emphasized the importance of addressing idle armies, which can disrupt immersion by leaving both player and AI-controlled forces inactive on the campaign map. He noted that this issue stems from a “complication of several different problems,” leading to multiple armies remaining stationary around settlements. The team aims to rectify these bugs to “significantly reduce (though likely not entirely remove) instances of idle armies.”
- Campaign AI prioritizing defensive tasks too aggressively
- Specific issues with Vampire Counts caught in odd recruitment logic
- Factions remaining idle despite valid enemy targets nearby
- Cowardly diplomacy AI that remains passive when not at war
Freeman also addressed the recruitment difficulties faced by the Chaos Dwarfs, mentioning early signs of progress. While he acknowledged the need for thorough testing to ensure no new issues arise, he remains optimistic about the direction the team is heading.
As for Golgfag Maneater, who was introduced in the previous DLC, Freeman noted that improvements are being made to his campaign behavior. “Of all the three key issues listed here, this is the one that we are most confident that we’re currently making a good improvement on,” he stated. Early tests indicate that he is now more aggressive in expanding his territory, although some concerns remain regarding his behavior in certain scenarios.
Freeman highlighted that most current testing focuses on new campaigns, suggesting that players may want to initiate fresh playthroughs to fully experience the improvements once update 6.3.4 is released. While the team has not finalized the release date, it is tentatively set for November 6, pending the completion of extensive testing phases.
