You can put Minecraft’s gorgeous new biome and building blocks to the test right now

In an exciting development for the Minecraft community, Mojang has unveiled the enchanting Dappled Forest biome, inviting players to explore its vibrant landscapes. This new region, first hinted at during May’s Minecraft Live event, showcases a stunning palette of autumnal colors and introduces a variety of building materials that are sure to inspire creativity.

Exploring the Dappled Forest

The Dappled Forest can be found adjacent to colder regions, featuring the striking Poplar Trees that offer a unique off-gray wood, perfect for modern architectural designs. The leaves of these trees come in a delightful range of red, orange, and yellow hues, adding to the aesthetic appeal. When players plant a sapling, the leaf color is randomly selected, providing a delightful element of surprise.

Among the new additions are Shelf Mushrooms, which grow naturally on both living and fallen Poplar Trees. These mushrooms not only serve culinary purposes in standard recipes but also provide a soft landing, reducing fall damage for adventurous players.

The decoration potential extends further with the introduction of Red Shrubs, which can be collected and placed anywhere in the game. These shrubs maintain their vibrant color regardless of their location, and players can use Bone Meal to propagate them, creating lush landscapes throughout their builds.

Additionally, the update brings Wool Stairs and Wool Slabs, available in all sixteen colors, allowing for even more customization in construction. These wool pieces are integral to a new structure type—the abandoned camp—found across various biomes. This intriguing addition raises questions about its origin: “If nobody’s been to the Dappled Forest before, who built the abandoned camp? And what loot did they leave?” Each camp is uniquely designed based on its biome and is accompanied by chests and barrels filled with treasures waiting to be discovered.

The Dappled Forest is also home to a variety of wildlife, including sheep, chickens, cows, pigs, rabbits, and foxes, with their cold-weather variants making an appearance where appropriate. While this update may not focus heavily on gameplay mechanics like the recent Chaos Cubed drop, the new cosmetic options promise to enhance the creative possibilities for players.

Minecraft’s third Game Drop of 2026 is now live for testing in both Minecraft Bedrock preview 26.40.27 and Minecraft Java snapshot 26.3. Players are encouraged to switch to the appropriate test build in the launcher to experience the wonders of the Dappled Forest firsthand.
