Google has initiated the rollout of Personal Intelligence for Gemini on Android Auto, enhancing the driving experience with a touch of personalized AI assistance. This update allows the AI assistant to seamlessly integrate with your connected Google apps, offering tailored responses while you navigate the roads.
Enhanced Personalization on the Go
Personal Intelligence first made its debut in Gemini and AI Mode earlier this year, although it remains disabled by default. To access this feature, users must be over 18 and possess a personal Google account. Setting it up is straightforward: simply navigate to the Gemini app or website and select Settings > Personal Intelligence > Connected Apps.
Here, you can choose which apps you wish to share with Gemini. In the context of Android Auto, Personal Intelligence can draw information from a variety of Google applications, including:
- Gmail
- Google Calendar (part of Workspace)
- Photos
- Maps
- YouTube
- Search
Once these apps are connected through the Gemini settings, they accompany you into your vehicle, enriching the AI’s ability to provide relevant information.
With this added context, Gemini moves beyond generic replies, delivering precise details that matter most. For instance, if you’re en route to the airport and inquire about your flight’s gate and departure status, Gemini can access your flight ticket in Gmail and simultaneously check the flight status. This streamlined, hands-free experience not only saves time but also eliminates the hassle of manually searching for your ticket and details.
Moreover, the integration allows Gemini to remember your food preferences, scheduled appointments, and previously visited locations through your Photos. Thus, when you request directions to a restaurant, your doctor, or the car wash you last frequented, you won’t need to reiterate your preferences.
Currently, Personal Intelligence in Android Auto is accessible to users worldwide, with the exception of the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Nigeria. Google has indicated that this feature will soon be available in vehicles equipped with Google built-in technology in the coming months.
