Gemini has introduced a remarkable feature known as agentic task automation, now available on the Galaxy S26 series. This innovative capability allows the AI to operate certain apps on your behalf, streamlining everyday tasks with ease.

The rollout of Gemini task automation, often referred to as “screen automation,” is currently underway for users of the Galaxy S26 series. Initially previewed during the announcement of Samsung’s latest smartphones, the feature is now fully operational and ready for use.

During our hands-on testing with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, we prompted Gemini to “order a spicy chicken sandwich from Popeye’s on Uber Eats.” The automation seamlessly initiated the process in the background, adding items to the cart without requiring our direct input. However, it’s important to note that Gemini does not complete the checkout process. Instead, once it reaches that stage, it sends a notification—accompanied by a strong vibration—prompting the user to finalize the order. Notably, it bypasses the add-on pages in Uber Eats, allowing users to quickly select a driver tip and place their order.

While the speed of this automation may not significantly outpace manual entry, its true value lies in its ability to handle the repetitive tasks of adding items to the cart or setting locations for rideshare services through simple voice commands. This frees users to focus on other activities while Gemini manages the details in the background.

Currently, Gemini supports task automation with several popular Android apps, including:

  • Lyft
  • Uber
  • Grubhub
  • DoorDash
  • Uber Eats
  • Starbucks

There are additional apps that would enhance this feature, such as Instacart, which are anticipated to be integrated in the future. Users can view a list of compatible apps within Gemini’s settings, tailored to the applications currently installed on their devices. Google has also indicated that more apps may be added over time.

In terms of device compatibility, Google plans to extend this feature to the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL, although it has not yet gone live on those devices. Users should look for “screen automation” in the Gemini app’s settings to confirm the rollout.
