In recent days, Google has unveiled a series of intriguing updates within its latest Android app iteration. Among these enhancements are aesthetic modifications, particularly a vibrant redesign of the Gemini overlay, alongside indications that Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Flip 7 and Fold 7 may come bundled with a promotional offer featuring Google AI.
As we delved deeper into the app’s code, we discovered additional developmental tweaks that, while not groundbreaking individually, are noteworthy in their collective impact. These findings stem from an APK teardown, a method that allows us to anticipate future features based on the underlying code, although it’s important to note that not all predicted features will necessarily reach public release.
Layout Innovations and Gemini Live Enhancements
Working with the beta version 16.23.69.sa.arm64 of the Google app, we observed several changes that remain hidden from public view. One notable adjustment involves a subtle reorganization of the app’s layout. The current design prominently displays the “Google” name at the top, accompanied by a shortcut to Labs. In the new configuration, the Labs shortcut shifts to the right, while the traditional wordmark is replaced by a more compact “G” logo.
Additionally, Google is refining the Gemini Live feature, which now boasts a more streamlined overlay positioned at the bottom of the screen. This new design facilitates easier access to controls, allowing users to share their screens without navigating back to the Gemini app. Users can summon these Live controls by pressing the Live button in the main overlay or by initiating a Live conversation and then navigating away from the app. A visual enhancement has also been introduced, displaying an audio waveform when the overlay is minimized to just the floating Live button.
AI Mode Search Suggestions
Another significant development is Google’s exploration of how it suggests search queries. The app is testing a feature that explicitly recommends searches in AI Mode, clearly labeling these suggestions. Given the ongoing discussions surrounding this mode, Google appears to be taking a proactive approach to address any potential concerns.
