Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27943 to the Canary Channel, bringing with it a series of enhancements and fixes aimed at refining the user experience for those testing this build on their PCs.
Changes and Improvements
[General]
- This update introduces a modest collection of general improvements and fixes designed to enhance the overall experience for Insiders utilizing this build.
Fixes
[General]
- Resolved an issue that caused the Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files section to freeze during file scans. This fix also restores the visibility of the option to clean up previous Windows installations within Storage Settings.
[Taskbar]
- Addressed a glitch where minimizing an app and toggling between desktops could result in a duplicate preview thumbnail appearing when hovering over the app in the taskbar.
[Display and Graphics]
- Fixed a problem that led to HDR unexpectedly disabling immediately after being activated in Settings.
[Other]
- Corrected an error that triggered an event stating “The ‘Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider’ provider was not loaded because initialization failed” with error 57 for some Insiders post-boot.
- Fixed an issue where entering a PIN for device casting from Quick Settings would not confirm upon pressing Enter.
- Implemented a fix to address unexpected large blank areas in the Group Policy Editor, particularly affecting users with the Chinese display language.
Known Issues
[General]
- [IMPORTANT] Certain Windows Insiders may face a rollback when attempting to install this build, encountering either the 0xC1900101-0x20017 or 0xC1900101-0x30017 error codes. Unfortunately, retrying the installation will lead to another rollback. The team is actively working on a resolution.
- [NEW] We are addressing an issue that has caused some Insiders with Arm64 PCs to experience an uptick in bugchecks (green screens) with the error IRQLNOTLESSOREQUAL in the latest Canary builds.
[For developers]
- PIX on Windows is currently unable to playback GPU captures on this OS version. A new PIX release is anticipated by the end of September to rectify this. In the interim, affected users can utilize the “Send Feedback” button in PIX or reach out via the DirectX Discord server for assistance with private builds.
[Graphics]
- We are investigating reports of screen flickering experienced by some Insiders while using browsers and potentially in other scenarios within the latest Canary builds.
[Audio]
- Some Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel are encountering issues where audio ceases to function, with Device Manager displaying one or more devices marked with a yellow exclamation mark, including “ACPI Audio Compositor.” Selecting Properties for these devices reveals a message stating, “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing.” For those affected, the following steps may help restore functionality:
- Right-click on the device with the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager and select “Update driver.”
- Choose “Browse my computer for drivers” and then “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.”
- Select the most recent driver from the list and click “Next.” If a list of common hardware types appears instead of specific drivers, this device is not related to the issue.
- This action should repair the device, removing the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager. If it persists, it may not be linked to this issue.
- Repeat these steps for each device marked with a yellow exclamation mark.
Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel
- The builds released to the Canary Channel reflect the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be interpreted as aligned with any specific Windows release. Features and experiences included in these builds may never reach general availability as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Over time, features may evolve, be removed, or replaced without being released beyond Windows Insiders. Some may eventually appear in future Windows releases when they are ready.
- Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, beginning with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as we monitor feedback to assess their reception before wider distribution within this channel.
- Some features may debut in the Dev and Beta Channels prior to their introduction in the Canary Channel.
- Features under active development may not be fully localized initially, with localization occurring over time as they are finalized. Users encountering localization issues in their language are encouraged to report these via the Feedback Hub.
- To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 will be necessary. Insiders should note that switching to a channel receiving builds with lower build numbers requires a clean installation due to technical setup requirements.
- The desktop watermark displayed in the lower right corner of the desktop is standard for these pre-release builds.
