Microsoft has unveiled the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27919, now available to users enrolled in the Canary channel. While this update may not be overflowing with new features, it does bring significant enhancements to the Windows Search functionality.
In a rather intriguing choice of words, Microsoft has stated that it aims to “rationalize and organize Windows Search settings.” This initiative appears to prioritize a more intuitive user experience, indicating a thoughtful approach to streamlining the interface.
Today, we rationalize and organize Windows Search settings under Settings > Privacy & security under a “Search permissions” settings page and a “Searching Windows” settings page. We are beginning to roll out a change that brings those two settings pages together so you can easily access all the Windows Search settings under a single settings page via Settings > Privacy & security > Search. The page is refreshed with a new modern visual for you to clearly browse the settings and control your experiences inside Windows Search, with the items listed in a better order.
This enhancement stands out as the primary focus of the latest Canary build, marking it as the sole significant update amidst a series of bug fixes. Indeed, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27919 largely serves as a maintenance release, addressing various issues within the system.
[File Explorer]
- Resolved an issue that caused File Explorer to crash when attempting to view the digital signatures tab in file properties.
[Input]
- Fixed a malfunction affecting the Microsoft Changjie Input method in the previous build.
- Addressed issues with phonetic keyboards, including the Hindi Phonetic Input and Marathi Phonetic keyboards, which were not functioning correctly in the prior release.
Known issues in Windows 11
Despite the numerous fixes included in this update, several known issues persist. Microsoft has highlighted the following concerns, though this list may not encompass all existing problems:
[General]
- [IMPORTANT NOTE FOR COPILOT+ PCs] Users transitioning to the Canary Channel on a new Copilot+ PC from the Dev Channel, Release Preview Channel, or retail may encounter the loss of Windows Hello PIN and biometric sign-in, accompanied by error 0xd0000225 and the message “Something went wrong, and your PIN isn’t available.” Users can recreate their PIN by selecting “Set up my PIN.”
- The progress wheel may appear as a rectangular glyph instead of displaying correctly during the upgrade to this build.
- [NEW] Users may experience multiple error pop-ups regarding unexpected elements when accessing the Group Policy Editor.
- [NEW] An underlying issue with dao360.dll in this build could lead to crashes in certain applications.
[Remote desktop]
- [NEW] A new issue has arisen where remote desktop only utilizes the primary monitor, even when configured for multiple monitors, starting from the last build.
[Widgets]
- [ADDED] Investigations are underway regarding reports of widgets being non-functional and unavailable following the upgrade to this build.
