Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 11 22H2 in October

Microsoft has issued a reminder to its customers regarding the impending end of servicing for the last supported editions of Windows 11 22H2, which will officially conclude on October 14. This announcement specifically pertains to the Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 11 22H2, all of which were initially released on September 20, 2022. This follows the previous cessation of service for the Home and Pro editions that took place last October.

“The October 2025 monthly security update will be the last update available for this version. After this date, devices running this version will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats,” Microsoft stated.

To ensure that users remain protected and productive, Microsoft has implemented an automatic feature update for Windows 11 consumer devices and non-managed business devices that have reached their end of servicing. This proactive measure guarantees that devices continue to receive essential monthly updates critical for security and overall ecosystem health.

Customers will have the flexibility to select a convenient time outside of active hours for their devices to reboot and complete the Windows 24H2 feature update. This user-centric approach aims to minimize disruption while ensuring that systems are up-to-date.

For those seeking further details about the end-of-service dates for other Windows releases, Microsoft provides resources such as the Windows Lifecycle FAQ page and the Lifecycle Policy search tool. Additionally, a comprehensive list of products approaching their end of support or retirement in the coming months is available.

Windows 11 24H2 Update

The latest iteration of Windows 11, known as version 24H2 (or the Windows 11 2024 Update), commenced its rollout in May 2024 for enterprise customers participating in the Windows Insider Release Preview Channel. It subsequently became available for eligible Windows 11 22H2/23H2 devices in October.

To ensure timely access to the latest feature updates, users are encouraged to navigate to Settings > Windows Update and enable the option labeled “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available.”

However, it is crucial to note that Microsoft has instituted several safeguard holds for the Windows 11 24H2 update, specifically targeting devices with incompatible drivers and software. Upgrade blocks remain in effect for systems utilizing incompatible SenseShield Technology code-obfuscation drivers, Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) audio drivers, certain wallpaper customization software, integrated cameras, and Dirac audio enhancement software.
