Omnissa adds Windows Server management to Workspace ONE

Omnissa has made a significant advancement by integrating Windows Server management into its Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) platform. This integration allows organizations to manage Windows Server alongside a diverse array of endpoints, including desktops, mobile devices, rugged devices, and IoT equipment, all from a single, cloud-based management system.

Bridging the Gap in IT Management

This enhancement marks a pivotal shift for Workspace ONE UEM, which has traditionally focused on endpoint administration. By incorporating server operations into its framework, Omnissa aims to address the challenges faced by many IT teams that still rely on separate, on-premises tools for server management. The company contends that such an approach not only escalates costs but also complicates operations, leaving server administration disconnected from broader endpoint policies and workflows.

Workspace ONE UEM is crafted to empower IT teams to apply policies, automate management tasks, and maintain visibility across devices from a unified console. With the inclusion of Windows Server, Omnissa seeks to provide administrators with a cohesive method for managing a wider range of systems.

Hemant Sahani, Vice President of Product Management at Omnissa, elaborated on the motivations behind this integration. “Customers are looking to move beyond siloed tools that add complexity and limit visibility and control,” Sahani stated. He further emphasized the cost benefits of adopting Workspace ONE for server management, noting that it allows teams to manage Windows Server at a significantly lower cost than traditional solutions like Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager. This transition not only enhances security and compliance but also streamlines server lifecycle management.

Enhanced Security and Efficiency

The new support for Windows Server includes over-the-air configuration management that operates independently of traditional network domains. Omnissa asserts that this capability enables IT teams to enforce baseline security policies, maintain security settings, and automate patching across managed systems. This focus on security reflects a broader trend in IT operations, as organizations seek to manage distributed infrastructures without solely relying on legacy domain-based methods. As server environments increasingly support critical business applications and artificial intelligence workloads, the need for tighter oversight becomes paramount.

Administrators will benefit from remote inventory data, which includes insights into installed roles and access logs for system monitoring. Omnissa’s product leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to identify performance and security issues, complemented by remote control tools.

As IT environments grow more complex, the ability to manage servers alongside other endpoints with a single solution helps simplify operations and improve security.” He noted that the practical implications would be significant for daily administration, stating, “With Omnissa, customers can now extend the UEM solution they already use to include servers, making a substantial difference in day-to-day operations and overall cost savings.”

This launch represents a strategic move for Omnissa as it continues to establish itself as an independent workplace software company following its separation from VMware’s end-user computing division. The company currently serves 26,000 customers globally across various domains, including unified endpoint management, virtual applications, digital employee experiences, and security and compliance. By integrating server management into Workspace ONE UEM, Omnissa is poised to bridge the long-standing divide between endpoint administration and server operations, reshaping how IT teams are organized and how systems are managed.
