Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27943 (Canary Channel)

Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the rollout of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27943 to the Canary Channel, bringing with it a series of improvements and fixes aimed at enhancing the user experience for those testing this build on their PCs.

Changes and Improvements

[General]

  • This update introduces a modest collection of general enhancements and fixes designed to elevate the overall experience for Insiders utilizing this build.

Fixes

[General]

  • Addressed an issue that caused the Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files section to become unresponsive during file scanning. This fix also restores visibility for the option to clean up previous Windows installations within Storage Settings.

[Taskbar]

  • Resolved a glitch where minimizing an app and toggling between desktops could result in a duplicate preview thumbnail appearing when hovering over the app in the taskbar.

[Display and Graphics]

  • Fixed a problem that could lead to HDR unexpectedly turning off immediately after being enabled in Settings.

[Other]

  • Corrected an issue that triggered an event in Event Viewer stating, “The ‘Microsoft Pluton Cryptographic Provider’ provider was not loaded because initialization failed” with error 57 for some Insiders following boot.
  • Fixed a scenario where entering a PIN for device casting from Quick Settings would not confirm upon pressing Enter.
  • Implemented a fix to address unexpected large blank areas in the Group Policy Editor when using the Chinese display language.

Known Issues

[General]

  • [IMPORTANT] Some Windows Insiders may encounter a rollback when attempting to install this build, resulting in either an 0xC1900101-0x20017 or 0xC1900101-0x30017 error. Unfortunately, retrying the installation will lead to another rollback. The team is actively working on a resolution.
  • [NEW] A fix is in progress for an issue affecting some Insiders with Arm64 PCs, leading to an increase in bugchecks (green screens) with the error IRQLNOTLESSOREQUAL in the latest Canary builds.

[For Developers]

  • PIX on Windows is currently unable to playback GPU captures on this OS version. A new PIX release addressing this issue is expected by the end of September. For those affected, the “Send Feedback” button in PIX or the DirectX Discord server can provide assistance with private builds.

[Graphics]

  • The team is investigating reports of screen flickering experienced by some Insiders while using the browser and potentially in other scenarios within the latest Canary builds.

[Audio]

  • Some Insiders in the Canary Channel are facing an audio issue, where sound ceases to function and Device Manager displays one or more devices marked with a yellow exclamation point, including “ACPI Audio Compositor.” If you encounter this problem, follow these steps to restore functionality:
    • Right-click on the device with the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager and select “Update driver.”
    • Choose “Browse my computer for drivers” and then “Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.”
    • Select the most recent driver from the list and click “Next.” If presented with a list of common hardware types instead of specific drivers, this device is not related to the issue.
    • The device should be repaired and the yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager should disappear. If it persists, it may not be related to this issue.
    • Repeat these steps for any additional devices marked with a yellow exclamation point.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel

  • The builds released to the Canary Channel reflect the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be interpreted as aligned with any specific Windows release. Features and experiences in these builds may never reach general availability as we explore various concepts and gather feedback. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced without ever being released beyond Windows Insiders. Some may appear in future Windows releases when they are ready.
  • Many features in the Canary Channel utilize Control Feature Rollout technology, initially launching with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as feedback is monitored.
  • Some features may debut in the Dev and Beta Channels prior to their introduction in the Canary Channel.
  • Active development features previewed for Windows Insiders may not be fully localized initially, with localization occurring over time as features are finalized. Please report any localization issues via the Feedback Hub.
  • To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is necessary. Insiders cannot switch to a channel receiving builds with lower numbers without performing a clean install due to technical setup requirements.
  • The desktop watermark visible in the lower right corner of the desktop is a standard feature for these pre-release builds.
  • For a comprehensive overview of which build is in which Insider channel, refer to Flight Hub.

Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon
