Warner Bros. is steadily assembling an impressive cast for the much-anticipated sequel to “Minecraft: The Movie.” In a recent announcement from Deadline, it has been revealed that Kirsten Dunst will be joining the lineup, taking on the role of Alex, a pivotal character in the beloved gaming universe, alongside the returning Steve.
Dunst, who has recently gravitated towards more arthouse projects, expressed her enthusiasm for the sequel in a candid interview with Town & Country last year. She noted that her children enjoyed the first film, and she welcomed the opportunity to participate in a project that promises both artistic merit and financial viability.
The sequel is expected to see the return of the main cast from the original film. Jack Black will reprise his role as Steve, while Jason Momoa is set to return as Garrett “the Scavenger.” Although the involvement of other cast members, including Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge, remains unconfirmed, anticipation continues to build.
Jared Hess will once again take the helm as director, with Chris Galletta penning the script. In a previous interview with Collider, producer Roy Lee shared insights about the production timeline, revealing that filming for “Minecraft: The Movie 2” is slated to commence in April 2026 in New Zealand. Fans can also look forward to the inclusion of the Dragon of the End, a significant element from the game, in this upcoming installment.
The film is set to make its debut on July 23, 2027, promising an exciting continuation of the Minecraft saga that has captivated audiences worldwide.
