Hello Windows Insiders,
Today marks a significant step forward as we expand the rollout of the revamped Windows Insider Program to devices in the Beta Channel. This transition will usher in a new Beta experience, and for those seeking further details, the announcement blog provides comprehensive insights.
New builds this week
We are excited to announce the release of new Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds. As a reminder, all Insiders can access the release notes tailored to your device according to the newly established channel system, even if you have yet to make the switch. This initiative aims to simplify the process of locating build information during this transition. You can find your channel release notes here.
For those on specific build versions, here are today’s new builds along with their respective release notes:
It’s important to note that existing Beta Channel Insiders on Windows 11 version 26H1 are currently receiving the same build version as Experimental (26H1). In the upcoming weeks, we will introduce distinct builds for these channels, at which point a new Beta (26H1) release notes section will be available. Additionally, Insiders transitioning to the new Beta experience from the default 25H2 core version who choose to upgrade to version 26H1 via the WIP settings Advanced options may experience a delay in their device’s uptake of the new version during this transition.
Notable new features:
[Taskbar improvements]
Release channel: Experimental
Alternate Taskbar Position
Users now have the flexibility to reposition the taskbar on their screens. By navigating to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Behaviors, you can select your preferred taskbar location—be it at the bottom, top, left, or right. Regardless of its position, tooltips, flyouts, and animations will continue to originate from the taskbar, and most customization settings, such as small taskbar and never combine taskbar icons, will remain functional across all placements.
Smaller Taskbar
For users seeking to maximize their screen real estate, especially on smaller devices, we are introducing a smaller taskbar option. While the default taskbar remains unchanged, this new setting offers a more compact experience with reduced height and smaller icons, allowing for greater app visibility. Core elements such as Start, Search, and the system tray will scale appropriately to maintain alignment and consistency.

[Widgets]
Release channel: Experimental
In our ongoing efforts to enhance the Widgets experience, we have implemented a subtle yet impactful visual update to taskbar badging. For users with taskbar badging enabled, the badge color will now align with your Windows accent color, moving away from the default red. This change aims to alleviate the sense of urgency associated with notifications.
Additionally, we are experimenting with a more tailored user experience based on engagement levels. For instance, users who frequently interact with Widgets may find their settings optimized for their preferences, while those with minimal engagement will benefit from a quieter experience, with taskbar badging turned off by default for new users.
[Windows Search Box]
Release channel: Experimental
We have begun to enhance the Windows Search Box to improve its relevance, starting with the prioritization of files and apps:
- Files and apps will now appear more reliably ahead of web suggestions when they are a stronger match for your content.
Expect to see further relevance improvements in future releases.
Thank you for your continued support,
Stephen and the Windows Insider Program team
