Meta rolls out Meta Business Agent globally on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger

Meta Expands Business Agent to Enhance Customer Engagement

Meta is broadening the reach of its Meta Business Agent, a feature designed to empower businesses in delivering tailored customer experiences through artificial intelligence. This global rollout follows a successful testing phase, previously known as “Business AI,” which commenced in October 2024 and focused on markets such as India, Mexico, and Brazil. During this period, Meta gathered valuable insights from over one million active shops utilizing its chat tools.

The Meta Business Agent operates seamlessly across popular platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger. It assists businesses in various tasks, such as addressing customer inquiries, managing incoming leads, scheduling appointments, and suggesting products from their catalogs.

The Meta Business Agent not only engages with customers but also serves as a valuable partner. It can provide morning briefings to update users on missed chats and offer insights into ongoing conversations.

Initially, the service will be available to a select group of businesses on the WhatsApp Business app, Instagram Pro, Messenger, and Meta Business Suite. Future enhancements aim to enable the agent to manage comprehensive daily operations, including market research, product insights, calendar management, and competitive analysis. Interested businesses can join the waitlist to gain early access.

Meta emphasizes that the Business Agent is capable of adapting to a brand’s unique voice when interacting with customers. Plans are in place to further develop the feature, allowing it to facilitate daily operations effectively. Soon, users will be able to discover these AI-enhanced shops effortlessly by searching for their names in the WhatsApp search bar.

In addition to the Business Agent, Meta is unveiling the Meta Business Agent Platform. This new infrastructure is designed to support the creation, customization, and management of virtual assistants at scale. Companies can integrate their bots with services such as Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee, utilizing firm-level controls, guardrails, and metrics to establish precise operational guidelines. This approach allows developers to craft bespoke behaviors, ensuring customers receive timely and accurate responses.

However, the introduction of such advanced technology comes with its challenges. Recently, reports surfaced of hackers gaining unauthorized access to Instagram accounts by exploiting the Meta AI support assistant on the mobile app. This incident highlights the importance of robust security measures in the evolving landscape of AI-driven customer service.
