Meta Unveils AI Agent for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger

Meta is unveiling a groundbreaking AI tool designed to enhance business-client interactions around the clock. The Meta Business Agent serves as an AI assistant, seamlessly integrating with popular platforms such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.

Always-On Customer Replies Across Meta Apps

With the Business Agent, Meta asserts that “every business can show up for every customer, as if they had an infinite team behind them.” This innovative tool is already operational for over one million businesses, providing 24/7 customer responses on WhatsApp and Messenger.

Meta highlights that there are over one billion active conversations between individuals and businesses across WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram daily. Given this immense volume, the AI agent is positioned to provide “more relevant, personalized experiences from the very first interaction.”

Businesses can initiate their Business Agent setup in mere minutes, or larger organizations can integrate it into their existing systems. The AI is capable of answering inquiries about the business, recommending products from a catalog, booking appointments, qualifying leads, and even closing sales.

From Customer Chats to Daily Briefings

Beyond responding to customer queries, Meta explains that the Business Agent functions as a collaborative partner. It can deliver morning briefings, summarize overnight conversations for teams, and provide insights on customer interactions.

The tool is designed to support local languages and can adapt to a brand’s tone, ensuring consistency across various applications for both small and large enterprises. While the initial setup is free, Meta indicates that access will transition to paid subscription tiers in the coming months, offering options tailored to different business sizes.

In conjunction with the agent, Meta is also launching the Meta Business Agent Platform. This “agentic platform” empowers companies to build and customize their own Business Agents, integrating them with systems like Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee, enabling the AI to perform actions beyond mere messaging.

Meta asserts that this platform provides larger businesses with “enterprise-grade controls, guardrails, and measurement,” allowing them to define operational rules and manage AI behavior effectively. This setup is expected to enable the agent to handle an expanding array of tasks over time, including market research, product insights, calendar management, and competitive intelligence, all within the messaging apps that users are already familiar with.
