11 Bit Studios has shared an exciting glimpse into its future with the announcement of two entirely new games currently in development, alongside a fresh take on its beloved franchises. Among these projects is a new installment in the Frostpunk series, as well as a reimagining of the acclaimed title, This War of Mine.
Financial Stability and Sales Success
The studio’s financial outlook remains robust, with the narrative-driven survival game The Alters achieving impressive sales of 545,000 copies. Meanwhile, Frostpunk 2 is nearing 880,000 copies sold, underscoring the franchise’s enduring popularity. CEO Przemysław Marszał expressed confidence in the company’s direction, stating, “The Alters showed that we can build new, global brands, and we are consistently developing Frostpunk as a long-term franchise.”
As for the upcoming titles, Marszał emphasized that Frostpunk 1886 and the reimagined This War of Mine will not be mere remasters. Instead, they will offer a modern, innovative approach to the narratives that have come to define 11 Bit Studios. “They represent a fully modern, fresh take on the games,” he noted, highlighting the commitment to community engagement and a multi-year lifecycle for these projects.
A Vision for the Future
Creative director Michał Drozdowski elaborated on the studio’s strategy, describing it as an evolution that pushes the boundaries of gaming. “We want every game under the 11 Bit studios banner, whether it’s a completely new IP or a reimagining of already known worlds, to carry a unique, ambitious artistic vision and that special emotional charge that our players value most,” he said.
As anticipation builds for the new Frostpunk game, speculation arises about its potential direction. A survival shooter reminiscent of Cryostasis, where players scavenge for resources and survivors, could be an intriguing concept. However, the reimagining of This War of Mine holds particular significance, especially given the current global climate. With the original game now 14 years old, its themes resonate more than ever amid ongoing conflicts that have resulted in civilian casualties.
11 Bit Studios has a history of leveraging its platform for charitable causes, particularly through This War of Mine. The prospect of modernizing this narrative for a new audience, while continuing to support civilians affected by war, presents a compelling opportunity for the studio.
While specific release dates for these new projects remain under wraps, 11 Bit has confirmed that 2026 will see the full launch of Moonlighter 2, along with new downloadable content for both Frostpunk and The Alters. Additionally, work on Frostpunk 1886 is ongoing, with plans for its release anticipated around 2027 or 2028.
