Capcom reports that its Steam game sales have risen massively — despite flagship titles like Monster Hunter Wilds receiving profuse backlash from PC players

Capcom has unveiled its latest fiscal year report on its Japanese website, detailing game sales revenue from April 2024 to March 2025. The report, shared via @HazzadorGamin on X, highlights a remarkable 61.1% increase in revenue from Capcom games sold on Steam, with over 28 million copies sold on Valve’s digital platform.

Console Sales Decline

However, the report does not paint a rosy picture for Capcom’s console game sales. Previously, sales on PlayStation systems constituted 10.5% of the company’s total revenue in 2024, but this figure has now dropped below the 10% mark, as confirmed by the omission of specific numbers in the current report. Unfortunately, details regarding sales on Xbox and Nintendo Switch systems remain absent.

A significant contributor to Capcom’s financial success on Steam is the recent release of Monster Hunter Wilds, which debuted just weeks before the end of the fiscal year on February 28, 2025. In addition to Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom bolstered its revenue in 2024 with other notable titles. These included the visually striking strategy/action hybrid Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and the much-anticipated revival of the cult classic RPG series, Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Mixed Reception for Monster Hunter Wilds

Despite the financial windfall, Monster Hunter Wilds has faced a barrage of “Overwhelmingly Negative” reviews on Steam in recent months. Players have voiced their frustrations regarding the game’s performance on PC, even when utilizing top-tier graphics cards. Criticisms have centered around a lack of challenge in monster encounters, minimal endgame content, and various optimization issues.
