COD Black Ops 6 brought in more Game Pass players than any other launch

In a remarkable display of market strength, the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has set a new benchmark for the franchise, attracting an unprecedented number of players to the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. During a recent discussion with investors, CEO and Chair Satya Nadella highlighted that this latest installment has achieved the highest launch figures in the series’ history, although specific metrics were not disclosed. He emphasized that the game has successfully driven more Game Pass subscriptions than any previous launch.

Record-Breaking Performance

Nadella noted, “Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for Day One players as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day.” The excitement surrounding the game extended beyond Xbox, with unit sales on PlayStation and Steam also experiencing a significant surge, increasing by over 60 percent year-over-year. This performance underscores the effectiveness of Microsoft’s strategy to engage gamers across various platforms, allowing them to enjoy a broader selection of games on their preferred devices.

As Nadella concluded, “We are rapidly innovating to expand our opportunity across our commercial and consumer businesses,” signaling a commitment to enhancing the gaming experience and broadening their market reach.

For the quarter ending September 30th, Microsoft’s gaming division reported an impressive revenue of .7 billion, reflecting a 43 percent increase in this segment. Consistent with previous trends, revenue from Xbox content and services—encompassing software and subscriptions—saw substantial growth, while hardware sales faced a decline. Specifically, Xbox content and services experienced a remarkable 61 percent year-on-year increase, with 53 percent of this growth attributed to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Conversely, hardware sales dipped by 29 percent, primarily due to lower console sales. Nevertheless, Game Pass achieved record revenues for the first quarter, boasting the highest average revenue per subscriber to date, further solidifying its position as a key player in the gaming industry.
