Minecraft Dungeons 2 takes another stab at Mojang’s surprisingly great Diablo-inspired action-RPG spin-off later this year

Mojang Studios has unveiled its latest venture into the action-RPG genre with the announcement of Minecraft Dungeons 2 during the recent Minecraft Live 2026 event. The brief yet captivating trailer showcased a world brimming with adventure and loot, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter in the beloved blocky universe.

Game Details and Platforms

Scheduled for release later this year, Minecraft Dungeons 2 will be available across multiple platforms, including PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. However, fans of the original Switch, as well as those on PS4 or Xbox One, may find themselves left out, as these versions are not currently in the pipeline.

The game’s Steam page hints at an escalating threat: “A new danger is growing in power, ready to descend upon the land and unleash mayhem.” Players can expect to encounter high-stakes challenges and explore never-before-seen locations as they embark on a quest to save a world in turmoil.

Loot and Cooperative Gameplay

In true action-RPG fashion, Minecraft Dungeons 2 promises an abundance of loot, allowing players to gather treasures or share them with up to three friends in cooperative gameplay. A press release emphasized the importance of loot, stating, “Loads of it. Grab it all, or share with up to three friends as you co-operate to save a world in crisis.”

The success of the original Minecraft Dungeons cannot be overstated, having attracted over 25 million players by April 2024, making it the most successful spin-off in the Minecraft franchise. As Mojang Studios continues to expand its offerings, the anticipation for Minecraft Dungeons 2 is palpable among fans and gamers alike.
