New android app lets you run Steam games directly on your mobile, and it’s free

What is DroidDeck, and how does it run Steam games?

DroidDeck is an Android application that runs Valve’s Steam client in Big Picture mode, and it gives you an interface similar to the Deck. It uses ARM64 Proton and FEX translation technology to make Windows PC games playable on supported Android hardware. That’s the basics of it, however, there are many other things that will impress players.

The biggest advantage is that you do not need a separate gaming PC to run your game library. Instead, games are installed and executed directly on your smartphones, although performance depends on the device’s hardware and the game’s requirements. Yes, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not going to run on the average phone, sorry for the disappointment.
According to its official GitHub repository, DroidDeck also supports other PC gaming platforms, including GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon Games. Games downloaded through these stores can be added to your library as non-Steam titles and launched using Proton. Do note that DroidDeck is not officially developed or supported by Valve, despite using the company’s Proton technology.

While the application is free, it does have certain hardware requirements. According to its GitHub documentation, DroidDeck requires Android 9 or newer and a supported Qualcomm Adreno GPU.
Devices with Adreno 730 or newer GPUs, including the Adreno 8xx series, are supported. Older Adreno 6xx GPUs have experimental support, although DirectX 12 games may experience crashes. Devices using Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 graphics are currently unsupported.
The application does not require root access, but you need approximately 3GB of storage for its runtime components.

How to download DroidDeck on Android

DroidDeck is available for free through its official GitHub repository. You can install it by following these steps:

  1. Visit the official DroidDeck GitHub releases page.
  2. Download the latest available APK file.
  3. Install the application on a compatible Android device.
  4. Open DroidDeck and install the required Linux runtime.
  5. Complete the required developer settings configuration.
  6. Launch Steam and sign in to access your game library.

Another important thing to note is DroidDeck does not have an official standalone website, so you should avoid downloading APK files from websites claiming to have this application. It could be spyware or malware.
