Devart adds AI assistant & PostgreSQL tools to dbForge

Devart has unveiled dbForge 2026.1, a significant update that enhances its database software suite with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities and expanded PostgreSQL tools.

AI Enhancements

The latest release places a strong emphasis on the dbForge AI Assistant, which has been upgraded to utilize database index metadata for generating and refining SQL queries. This enhancement allows the assistant to tap into information regarding clustered, non-clustered, composite, unique, and B-tree indexes, thereby bolstering its query generation and optimization recommendations across various supported database systems.

With the ability to translate natural language into SQL, the AI Assistant can generate context-aware queries, optimize existing SQL commands, identify redundant or missing indexes, elucidate SQL code, analyze errors, and respond to database-related inquiries through an integrated chat interface.

Victor Horlenko, Head of AI Innovations at Devart, articulated the vision behind these enhancements. He stated, “AI-generated SQL becomes substantially more valuable when it understands the structure and performance characteristics of the underlying database.” He further emphasized that the objective is to expedite development while upholding robust query performance and optimization standards.

PostgreSQL Focus

The release also broadens the PostgreSQL development capabilities within dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL and dbForge Edge. A new visual Query Builder has been introduced, offering users a drag-and-drop interface to effortlessly create SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, and JOIN queries without the need to manually write each command.

Additionally, the update features an enhanced SQL Editor, which includes syntax highlighting for code blocks enclosed in dollar quotes, suggestions for index names, and improvements to document tab management. These enhancements are designed to facilitate the daily tasks of developers, analysts, database administrators, and business intelligence teams.

Moreover, a visual Table Editor for PostgreSQL has been added, enabling users to manage columns, primary and foreign keys, unique constraints, indexes, and other table properties through an intuitive graphical interface.

Schema Tools

Improvements have also been made to schema comparison and synchronization for PostgreSQL and Amazon Redshift. The release now supports a wider array of PostgreSQL and related servers, offers more schema and table mapping options, and allows for the comparison and synchronization of indexes on tables and materialized views.

These enhancements extend dbForge’s PostgreSQL tooling beyond mere query development, enriching database design and migration workflows. The update introduces pinned document tabs, which enable users to keep frequently accessed SQL scripts, schema files, and queries easily accessible during multi-tab sessions.

Andrii Melnykov, Head of Product at dbForge, remarked that the update is tailored for teams seeking to manage multiple database tasks within a single environment. “With dbForge 2026.1, we’re delivering a unified database development solution for PostgreSQL teams,” Melnykov noted. “By integrating visual query development, database design, and enhanced schema comparison into a familiar environment, we’re making daily work easier and more comfortable for teams.”

dbForge 2026.1 is now available across various products, including dbForge Edge, dbForge Studio for SQL Server, dbForge Studio for PostgreSQL, dbForge Studio for MySQL, dbForge Studio for Oracle, and others in the dbForge lineup. Customers with active subscriptions can access the update immediately, while others can explore the new release through a trial version.
