What’s new with Build 27802

Improving the battery iconography in Windows 11

Exciting updates are here with the introduction of new battery icons in Windows 11, crafted to provide a clear and immediate understanding of your PC’s battery status. The enhancements include:

  • Colored icons that signify various charging states.
  • Simplified overlays that do not obstruct the progress bar.
  • An option to display the battery percentage for quick reference.
Battery shown in black, yellow, and green to indicate different charging states.

The green battery icon indicates that your PC is charging and in optimal condition. A yellow icon signals that your device is operating in energy-saving mode, which activates automatically when the battery level drops to 20% or lower. A red icon warns of critically low battery levels, prompting users to connect their PC to a power source promptly. These icons will be visible on the taskbar, in the quick settings flyout, and within the Settings app, with future updates planned to display them on the Lock screen.

Additionally, users can hover over the battery icon in the system tray for detailed battery status information, accessible under Settings > System > Power & battery, where adjustments to the battery saver mode can also be made.

The toggle to turn on showing battery percentage in Settings highlighted in a red box.

In response to user feedback, the option to display battery percentage next to the battery icon in the system tray has been added. To activate this feature, navigate to Settings > Power & battery and toggle on the “Battery Percentage” setting.

FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Desktop Environment > System Tray.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel

  • The Canary Channel builds represent early-stage platform changes and should not be viewed as aligned with any specific Windows release. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced based on user feedback.
  • Feature rollouts in the Canary Channel utilize Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a select group of Insiders and gradually expanding based on feedback.
  • Some features may debut in the Dev and Beta Channels prior to the Canary Channel.
  • Localization of features in active development will occur over time, and users are encouraged to report localization issues via Feedback Hub.
  • To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is required. Insiders cannot switch to a channel with lower build numbers without this process.
  • The desktop watermark in the lower right corner of the screen is standard for these pre-release builds.
  • For a comprehensive overview of build availability across Insider channels, refer to Flight Hub.

Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon
