Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27802 to the Canary Channel. In conjunction with this update, there are currently no plans to release SDKs for the 27xxx series builds.
What’s new with Build 27802
Improving the battery iconography in Windows 11
Exciting enhancements to battery icons are now part of Windows 11! These newly designed icons aim to convey your PC’s battery status at a mere glance. Key updates include:
- Colored icons to indicate various charging states.
- Simplified overlays that allow the progress bar to remain visible.
- An option to display the battery percentage, a feature highly requested by users.
When your battery icon appears green, it signifies that your PC is charging optimally. A yellow icon indicates that your PC is in energy-saving mode, automatically activated when the battery level drops to 20% or lower. A red icon warns of critically low battery levels, prompting you to connect your PC to a power source promptly. These icons will be visible in the taskbar’s system tray, the quick settings flyout, and in the Settings app, with future updates planned for the Lock screen.
For a detailed view of your battery status, simply hover over the battery icon in the system tray or navigate to Settings > System > Power & battery, where you can also adjust the battery level percentage that triggers energy saver mode.
In addition to the icon updates, users can now opt to display the battery percentage next to the battery icon in the system tray. To activate this feature, head to Settings > Power & battery and toggle on the “Battery Percentage” option.
FEEDBACK: Please file feedback in Feedback Hub (WIN + F) under Desktop Environment > System Tray.

Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Canary Channel
- The builds released to the Canary Channel reflect the latest platform changes early in the development cycle and should not be interpreted as aligned with any specific Windows release. Features and experiences in these builds may never be released, as they are subject to change based on feedback.
- Many features in the Canary Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as feedback is monitored.
- Some features may debut in the Dev and Beta Channels before appearing in the Canary Channel.
- Localization for features in active development may not be fully completed and will occur over time as features are finalized. Please report any localization issues via the Feedback Hub.
- To exit the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is required. Insiders cannot switch to a channel with lower build numbers without performing a clean install due to technical requirements.
- The desktop watermark in the lower right corner of the desktop is standard for pre-release builds.
- For a comprehensive view of which build is in each Insider channel, visit Flight Hub.
