Apple Mac grows 13.7% in Q3 to grab 9% global market share

Apple’s Macintosh has demonstrated remarkable resilience, achieving a shipment growth of 13.7% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2025. This performance comes amidst a broader personal computer market that saw an overall increase of 9.4%, with global shipments reaching a notable 75.8 million units, as reported by the International Data Corporation (IDC) in their latest Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker.

Regional Insights and Market Dynamics

Jean Philippe Bouchard, research vice-president at IDC, highlighted the contrasting narratives emerging from different regions. “While the entire market is continuing on a very strong year, fueled by the transition to Windows 11 and the necessity to upgrade an aging installed base, the results by regions are telling different stories,” he noted. The North American market, in particular, has been grappling with the repercussions of US import tariffs and ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties. Despite these challenges, there remains a palpable demand for newer PCs that are compatible with Windows 11, a trend likely to extend into 2026.

Notes:
● IDC considers a statistical tie in the Personal Computing Device market when the shipment shares among two or more vendors differ by one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) or less. Traditional PCs encompass Desktops, Notebooks, and Workstations, excluding Tablets or x86 Servers. Detachable Tablets and Slate Tablets are included in the Personal Computing Device Tracker but are not the focus of this report.
● Shipments refer to those sent to distribution channels or end users, with OEM sales attributed to the company or brand under which they are marketed.

MacDailyNews Take: Apple’s Mac continues to dominate the global personal computer profit landscape, capturing an estimated 70% of the market’s operating profits. This impressive figure underscores the brand’s enduring appeal and profitability, particularly when considering conservative estimates of operating margins—approximately 25% for Apple’s Mac compared to a mere 4% for other PC vendors, which often report low or single-digit margins.
