Microsoft has unveiled a significant evolution in its Windows ecosystem, introducing a suite of new features for Windows 11 and its Copilot+ PCs, complemented by cutting-edge Surface AI-ready hardware. The dual announcements highlight a strategic push towards enhancing user experience through innovative software and hardware solutions.
Photos, Paint, and Snipping Tool
The upcoming enhancements to Microsoft’s Photos app include an exciting relight feature, which allows users to add up to three digital light sources to improve or correct images. This tool will offer auto presets for quick edits, alongside manual adjustments for those seeking a more tailored approach. The beloved Paint app, once on the brink of extinction, is also set to receive new capabilities, such as object selection and the ability to create custom digital stickers based on text prompts.
Additionally, the Snipping Tool will see improvements with a new text extractor, color picker, and an automatic adjustment feature for screenshots. This tool will utilize AI to analyze the screen and focus on key content, enabling users to fine-tune selections effortlessly. The object selection feature will leverage context-aware AI to isolate elements for targeted edits, simplifying the creative process.
Recall
Microsoft’s Recall feature aims to alleviate common frustrations associated with searching for content on personal computers. By retracing users’ steps, Recall enables them to find apps, websites, images, or documents by scrolling through their timeline or simply describing what they remember. Privacy and security are paramount, with Recall being an opt-in feature that incorporates robust privacy controls, including local data processing and encryption. Users can opt out or remove Recall entirely if they choose.
Improved Windows Search
The enhanced Windows search functionality allows users to describe their queries conversationally, with AI interpreting the context to deliver relevant results. This improvement is facilitated by specialized chips in Copilot+ PCs, designed to accelerate AI tasks, significantly reducing the time needed to locate files compared to traditional search methods. Users can now seamlessly search for images, documents, or settings using natural language, making the experience more intuitive.
Click to Do
Microsoft’s Click to Do feature streamlines workflows by enabling users to remain within a single application. By providing contextual shortcuts for actions like summarizing or copying text and images, Click to Do enhances productivity. Activation is simple, whether through keyboard shortcuts or touchscreen gestures, allowing users to access relevant actions based on their current screen content.
