Pragmata’s PC Demo Runs Like a Dream

During The Game Awards 2025, CAPCOM finally revealed the much-anticipated release date for Pragmata, alongside the launch of a demo available for PC users. Following the mixed reception of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Monster Hunter: Wilds, it’s refreshing to see the RE Engine regain its footing with this highly optimized demo.

Pragmata Demo Performance Impressions

My experience with the Pragmata demo lasted approximately 25 minutes, showcasing a shift from CAPCOM’s typical open-world design to a more contained environment reminiscent of Resident Evil. This change has resulted in not only enhanced performance but also a consistent gaming experience. After a shader compilation phase that took about 5-7 minutes on my AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, I was pleased to report that my playthrough was entirely free of stutters.

Setting the graphics to 1440p with DLSS configured to DLAA on an RTX 4070 Super, I pushed every graphical option to its maximum and enabled Ray Tracing. The outcome was impressive, with an average frame rate of around 90 FPS throughout the demo, maintaining smooth gameplay without interruptions.

Lowering the DLSS setting to Quality increased my average frame rate to approximately 120 FPS, while still delivering a visually sharp experience. Given the excellent performance with DLAA, I found it preferable for achieving higher image quality.

One of the standout features of this demo is its ability to maintain performance even with ray tracing enabled. While the scale of the environment may be limited, the final encounter showcased significant visual effects, and the performance remained stable despite minor fluctuations. For players with less powerful GPUs, the option to disable ray tracing is a welcome addition, allowing for improved performance.

In-game settings also allow for the disabling of chromatic aberration, depth of field, lens flare, and bloom, ensuring a clean and sharp visual experience without the need for manual configuration. Additionally, Frame Generation support is included, which can further enhance frame rates for users equipped with high refresh rate displays, offering added motion clarity.

Pragmata Release Date

Scheduled for release on April 26, 2026, Pragmata will be available on PC, Xbox Series S|X, PS5, and the Nintendo Switch 2. The demo, which can be downloaded from Steam, is a compact 7.4 GB in size. Overall, the performance of Pragmata has left a positive impression, and there is hope that the final version will maintain this level of quality. After a series of underwhelming Unreal Engine 5 titles, it is indeed gratifying to engage with a game that not only looks stunning but also runs smoothly on modern hardware. It appears that CAPCOM’s RE Engine is best suited for linear titles with expansive environments, rather than open-world experiences, at least for the time being.
