Changes to the Rewards System

In a recent communication to Lidl Plus customers, the supermarket outlined the upcoming changes. The email stated, “As a Lidl Plus customer, we’re just letting you know about some important changes. From Tuesday, May 5, a new way to earn rewards with Lidl Plus begins.” Customers are reminded that they have until May 4 to meet their April spending targets under the existing Coupon Plus program.

The email further clarified that while Coupon Plus will be discontinued, Personalised Coupons and Weekly Offers will remain unaffected. Customers can continue to use any existing coupons until their expiration dates.

The previous Coupon Plus program allowed customers to earn rewards through monthly spending milestones, offering free items such as bakery goods, vegetables, and snacks at various spending thresholds like £10, £50, and £100.

Understanding Lidl Plus Points

As Lidl transitions to Lidl Plus Points, the supermarket promises a more flexible rewards experience. According to their website, “Starting Tuesday, May 5, a new way to save will land in your Lidl Plus app! From big shops to small, every time you shop and scan your Lidl Plus app, you will collect points that can be spent on hundreds of rewards in our Rewards Marketplace.”

Customers can easily navigate this new system by following these steps:

  • Step one – Shop and scan the Lidl Plus app at checkout.
  • Step two – Collect Lidl Plus points with every purchase (£1 = one point).
  • Step three – Enter the Rewards Marketplace on the Lidl Plus app and choose from 100 rewards or money-off coupons.
  • Step four – Exchange points to receive a coupon (ensure to activate your coupons before use).

To celebrate the launch of Lidl Plus Points, the supermarket will offer double points on all fresh fruit from May 5 to May 22. Additionally, customers can earn 100 welcome points from May 5 to July 31 by simply opening the app and following the instructions to collect the points, which can be redeemed for a free product worth up to 100 points in the Rewards Marketplace.

Louise Weise, chief customer officer at Lidl GB, emphasized the supermarket’s commitment to delivering value and enhancing the shopping experience. “Everything we do is driven by a deep understanding of customer needs and a commitment to exceeding their expectations,” she stated. She noted that customer feedback indicated a desire for more freedom in choosing rewards, leading to the development of Lidl Plus Points as a natural evolution of the existing loyalty program.

As the announcement unfolds, reactions from customers on platforms like Reddit reveal a mix of nostalgia and concern. Many express their fondness for the previous rewards, particularly the “free big bag” of potatoes, while others lament the loss of the familiar coupon structure.

As discussions continue, shoppers are encouraged to share their thoughts on the transition from Coupon Plus to Lidl Plus Points. More information about the new loyalty scheme can be found on Lidl’s official website.
