I began my journey with Windows Central by delving into the vibrant world of Minecraft, and I still find myself in the thick of it whenever Xbox and Mojang Studios unveil new updates. My coverage has spanned every Minecraft Live show since the beginning, ensuring that you receive the latest announcements directly. However, this time, a cross-country trip for some undisclosed work kept me from tuning into Minecraft Live in September 2025. Thankfully, my colleagues stepped in to cover my absence, but I remain committed to staying updated on all things Minecraft.
Minecraft has already seen several exciting updates this year, including Spring to Life, which enhanced the Overworld’s diversity, and Happy Ghasts, introducing a new flying mount along with vibrant visuals. The Copper Age is set to launch tomorrow, but let’s focus on the latest reveal: a fourth game drop titled Mounts of Mayhem, arriving just in time for the holiday season. This update promises to elevate how players traverse the Minecraft universe in style, with the Happy Ghast sharing the spotlight.
Land, air, lava, and underwater — Minecraft is getting a mount for every occasion.
While we can expect additional features in the Mounts of Mayhem update, the core elements can be divided into two categories: mounts and combat. On the mount front, Mojang is introducing a new underwater creature called the Nautilus. This friendly cephalopod can be tamed with pufferfish and equipped with a saddle, along with new Nautilus armor found in treasure chests, allowing players to navigate the ocean depths with flair.
The Nautilus is fully controllable, features a “dash” ability akin to the Camel, and offers a “Breath of the Nautilus” effect that pauses your breath meter while riding it. This means you can explore, build, and engage in combat without the constant worry of drowning. Players can also tame multiple Nautilus and breed them to create adorable little tentacle companions.
However, the update isn’t just about new mounts. Hostile mobs will also see enhancements. Undead Zombie Nautilus can spawn with aggressive Drowned, pursuing players at high speeds while hurling tridents. On land, the Zombie Horse makes its Survival Mode debut, serving as the mount of choice for elite Zombies, who will wield the new Spear weapon introduced in this update.
The Spear is a tiered weapon, similar to the Sword, and can be crafted using two sticks and any material of choice. It offers a basic “stab” attack that provides more range than other close-quarters weapons. The real advantage comes when charging; lowering the spear allows players to deal damage based on their speed. This means players can defend themselves while mounted on various creatures, but they must remain cautious of the mounted Zombies wielding the same weapon.
We’re one day away from a copper revolution in Minecraft
The Copper Age update is set to launch across both Bedrock and Java Editions on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. This update focuses on enhancing the utility of copper within the game. Players can expect the introduction of a new friendly mob, the Copper Golem, which can be built rather than tamed. This Golem interacts with Copper Chests for automatic item sorting and can freeze into Copper Golem Statues that emit redstone signals based on their pose. Additionally, players will gain access to a variety of new decorative blocks, a full suite of copper armor, weapons, tools, and even mount armor.
One of the standout features is the shelf, allowing players to swap out their hotbar inventory quickly with displayed items. The Copper Age is shaping up to be a cohesive and exciting update, likely eliminating any complaints regarding copper’s usefulness in the game.
Minecraft collaborations keep getting better
During the event, Mojang Studios announced two new collaborations. While the upcoming Dragon Ball Z DLC has garnered significant attention, the partnership with Conservation International intrigues me more. This collaboration introduces the Friendly Fishing Add-On, which adds over 100 new aquatic mobs, unique structures, and armor types. Notably, Microsoft has pledged 0,000 to Conservation International, with all net proceeds from the add-on’s sales going to support conservation efforts.
Additionally, players can currently collect a free Super Saiyan Hair Character Creator item from the Minecraft: Bedrock Edition Marketplace until November 4, 2025. The Dragon Ball Z DLC may still be on the horizon, but players can embrace their inner Super Saiyan right now.
A good Minecraft Live that I’m sad I missed
Reflecting on Minecraft Live (September 2025), it was a brief yet impactful event. The Copper Age is shaping up to be my favorite update of the year, and I eagerly anticipate what Mojang will reveal for the Mounts of Mayhem game drop. With a Nautilus companion and a spear in hand, I look forward to exploring Minecraft’s oceans in a way I never have before.
