Newzoo: Top 20 PC/Console Games by Revenue and MAU (August’25)

In August, the gaming landscape witnessed a remarkable surge, with three new titles making their mark in the top 20 revenue rankings. EA Sports Madden NFL 26 claimed the second spot, while Mafia: The Old Country and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater secured sixth and fifteenth places, respectively. This influx of new entries highlights the dynamic nature of the market, particularly as player preferences continue to shape revenue streams across various platforms.

Mafia: The Old Country, in particular, demonstrated a strong performance on PlayStation, generating approximately two-thirds of its revenue from this platform. This trend underscores the significance of audience demographics in determining a game’s success. Additionally, World of Warcraft experienced a notable resurgence, climbing 12 spots to eighth place, fueled by the excitement surrounding preorders for its upcoming Midnight expansion, which launched on August 19. Meanwhile, Apex Legends made a welcome return to the top 20 following its recent Showdown update.

Revenue – individual platforms

On the individual platform front, Helldivers II made a strong debut on Xbox, securing the second position in revenue for August, just behind EA Sports Madden NFL 26. On PlayStation, Gears of War: Reloaded entered the rankings at fourteenth place, a modest start that reflects the varying scales of competition within the gaming industry.

The Nintendo Switch also saw a vibrant month, with three new titles breaking into the top 20: Tiny Bookshop at third place, EA Sports Madden NFL 26 at tenth, and Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar at fifteenth. This diversity in audience preferences across platforms illustrates the evolving landscape of gaming consumption.

MAU – all platforms

In terms of Monthly Active Users (MAU), the rankings experienced significant shifts. Battlefield 6 made a striking entry into the overall chart at third place, despite being in beta. This surge in popularity also contributed to Battlefield 2042’s resurgence into the top 20. Additionally, the launch of Delta Force on consoles propelled it into the overall rankings, while Helldivers II saw a spike in activity, driven by its new update and Xbox release.

On the Nintendo Switch, Tiny Bookshop emerged as the sole new entry in the MAU rankings, further emphasizing the platform’s unique appeal. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, these trends reflect not only the competitive nature of the market but also the ever-changing preferences of gamers across different platforms.
