Polish developer PixelAnt Games has officially announced its independence from Sumo Group, marking a significant milestone in the studio’s journey. The announcement, shared via LinkedIn, highlights PixelAnt’s commitment to cultivating its own intellectual properties while also engaging in work-for-hire projects.
New Directions for PixelAnt
This transition to independence is specific to PixelAnt’s Polish operations, with the Czech studio remaining under the Sumo Group umbrella. Currently, PixelAnt is collaborating with Bloober Team on an exciting project: a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Cronos: The New Dawn.
In their statement, PixelAnt expressed, “After careful consideration, we decided that operating as an independent studio best supports that creative vision and allows us to fully focus on what defines us.” This sentiment reflects a renewed focus on their creative aspirations and the desire to explore new avenues for growth.
The studio is actively seeking partnerships, funding, and publishing opportunities to bring their innovative ideas to fruition. They conveyed gratitude towards Sumo Group, stating, “We’re parting with a great deal of respect and appreciation.” This amicable separation follows Sumo Group’s recent divestment of The Chinese Room, further indicating a strategic shift within the company.
PixelAnt Games was acquired by Sumo Group in 2021 for £250,000, and this latest development signals a new chapter for the studio as it embarks on its independent journey.
