Voidwood, a Fantasy Co-Op Survival Horror Game, Announced for PC

Santa Barbara Games, a fresh face in the gaming industry, has unveiled its inaugural project, Voidwood. This new title, crafted by a team of seasoned developers from renowned studios such as Bethesda, Riot, and EA, promises to deliver a unique blend of fantasy and horror. With an art style reminiscent of Studio Ghibli, Voidwood invites players into a whimsical yet treacherous world.

Gameplay Mechanics and Features

In Voidwood, players can team up with up to three friends to navigate a cursed forest, where survival hinges on both strategy and stealth. As children lost in this eerie landscape, players will scavenge for supplies and craft essential tools during the day. However, as night falls, the stakes rise dramatically with the emergence of The Beast, an unrelenting force that players must evade at all costs.

Communication is pivotal in this game, with proximity chat encouraging players to whisper to each other. The tension heightens as shouting could inadvertently attract The Beast, leading to dire consequences. Interestingly, players face moral dilemmas; sacrificing one to ensure the escape of others is a strategic option that adds depth to the gameplay.

Players can regroup at their camp, a safe haven from lower-tier monsters thanks to the protective glow of the campfire. However, caution is essential, as The Beast is not deterred by light and can charge into the camp if it detects players nearby. For those seeking refuge, hiding in the bushes is a viable tactic, provided silence is maintained.

Each session in Voidwood lasts between 20 to 30 minutes, ensuring a fresh experience every time. The game incorporates meta progression, allowing characters to evolve over days, weeks, and months of gameplay, enhancing the long-term engagement for players.

Currently in development for PC, Voidwood is slated for release in 2027. Interested players can add it to their Steam wishlist to stay updated on its progress.
