Android users can now share their favorite Spotify songs through WhatsApp Status

What you need to know

WhatsApp users are now able to seamlessly integrate their Spotify experiences into their Status updates, akin to the popular Instagram story format. This new feature allows users to share a variety of Spotify content directly, enriching their social interactions.

  • The Spotify cards shared in WhatsApp Status will showcase a title, cover art, and a brief audio snippet, providing a visual and auditory glimpse into the content.
  • While some Spotify users are already experiencing this integration, the rollout is gradual and may take several weeks to reach the entire user base.

Spotify’s innovative social features have long made it a favorite among those eager to share their musical tastes and podcast discoveries. The introduction of Spotify Wrapped, a year-end feature designed for social media sharing, exemplifies this ethos. Now, Spotify has taken a significant step forward by partnering with WhatsApp to enhance music and media sharing capabilities through WhatsApp Status.

WhatsApp Status serves as a temporary platform for users to express what they are currently enjoying with friends and family. Previously limited to photos, videos, voice notes, and text, it now welcomes Spotify content into its fold. Users can share songs, albums, podcasts, and more, with each post remaining visible for 24 hours. This new functionality mirrors existing integrations with other Meta platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook.

According to Spotify, users can now share a diverse array of content, including songs, albums, playlists, podcasts, artist clips, and audiobooks to their WhatsApp Status. Upon sharing, a visually appealing card will appear, complete with the content’s title and cover art. This card also features a short audio preview that plays when friends and family view the Status update. Additionally, an Open in Spotify link will direct viewers to the shared content within the Spotify app or web client.

The integration of WhatsApp Status with Spotify is currently rolling out to users worldwide. As this is a gradual process, it may take some time before every Spotify user gains access to the feature. Both Free and Premium account holders can expect to see this integration “in the coming weeks,” conveniently located in the Share menu within the Spotify app.

Moreover, Spotify content can still be shared through individual WhatsApp chats, allowing users to send songs, playlists, and podcasts directly. However, the WhatsApp Status feature is particularly designed for those moments when users wish to broadcast their audio preferences to a broader audience. Beyond WhatsApp, Spotify has also outlined seven additional methods for sharing content, as detailed in a recent blog post.
