Samsung’s Good Lock app serves as a vibrant canvas for personalization, yet many users only scratch the surface of its capabilities. A recent discovery revealed a fascinating fingerprint feature that elevates the user experience. With a few adjustments, my Galaxy phone now responds to different fingers, launching specific applications with a simple touch. For instance, my left thumb opens Instagram, while my right index finger takes me directly to the Notes app. This functionality adds a layer of convenience that is both impressive and enjoyable.
How to set up Good Lock’s fingerprint hack
Setting this feature up on your Samsung device is straightforward, though it requires a bit of exploration within the Good Lock app. First, you’ll need to register the fingerprints you wish to use. Each action you want to assign will require a unique fingerprint, so consider this as establishing shortcuts ahead of time. For example, I’ve registered my left thumb, right index finger, and right thumb, allowing me three distinct actions. To register your fingerprints, navigate to Settings, select Security and Privacy, and tap on Screen lock and biometrics. Here, you can register as many fingerprints as necessary.
Next, if you haven’t already, download the Good Lock app from the Google Play Store and complete the initial setup. Once your fingerprints are registered and Good Lock is operational, follow these steps to integrate the functionality:
- Open Good Lock and navigate to the Plugins tab at the bottom.
- Locate Routines+ and install it.
- After installation, open the app.
- Grant the necessary permissions and tap Start.
- Go to the Fingerprint to website section.
- Tap the edit icon in the bottom-left corner.
- Create a routine for your fingerprint.
At this point, you’ll need to add a condition. The unlock with fingerprint option is pre-selected. Next, you’ll define the action. In the Then section, the default action is to open a website, but this can be customized. Tap Add action and browse through the options. You’ll find a range of Samsung’s built-in settings, including Sounds and Vibration, Notifications, and Display. If you wish to link a third-party app, scroll down to Other apps, where all installed applications are listed.
For example, selecting the Phone app allows you to jump directly to missed calls or search for a contact. The choice of action is entirely yours. Personally, I configured mine to launch Instagram. Now, with a simple touch of my left thumb, I’m instantly scrolling through reels without delay. This process can be repeated for other fingerprints, each assigned a different action. The variety of options available can be overwhelming, so take some time to explore what best suits your needs.
Letting my fingerprints handle the hustle
Embracing a more efficient lifestyle, I’ve come to appreciate the convenience of this fingerprint feature. When I pick up my phone, I expect immediate results tailored to my preferences. While there was an initial learning curve—remembering which fingerprint triggered which action—this quickly became second nature. I primarily use this feature for quick access to frequently used apps, but its potential extends far beyond mere convenience. For those who thrive on productivity, this customization can significantly streamline daily tasks. For instance, assigning a fingerprint to open your Reminders app ensures that you’re greeted with your tasks the moment you unlock your phone, setting a proactive tone for your day.
This is the essence of the Good Lock experience. Features like these often go unnoticed, yet they enhance usability in remarkable ways. My exploration didn’t stop there; I also configured a routine for Android Auto, which automatically launches YouTube Music upon connection, allowing me to dive straight into my favorite tunes without fumbling around. It’s the small enhancements that accumulate over time, making my phone feel increasingly tailored to my habits. Once accustomed to this level of convenience, reverting to traditional methods feels unnecessarily sluggish.
