Next-Gen Xbox Will Reportedly Play PlayStation Games Like God of War and Spider-Man Because It’s a Console / PC Hybrid That Runs Steam

A recent report has unveiled intriguing details about Microsoft’s forthcoming next-generation Xbox console, which is poised to redefine the gaming landscape with its innovative console/PC hybrid model. This groundbreaking device is expected to support PlayStation titles available on PC through Steam, allowing gamers to enjoy acclaimed titles such as God of War, Spider-Man, and Ghost of Tsushima—a first in the industry.

Seamless Ecosystem Integration

According to Windows Central, users of the next-gen Xbox will have the flexibility to remain within the Xbox ecosystem or transition to a traditional Windows interface. This dual functionality means that players can access not only PlayStation games on Steam but also popular titles from Blizzard’s Battle.net, such as World of Warcraft, and Riot’s launcher, including League of Legends.

This evolution suggests that the next-gen Xbox may lean more towards a PC experience than a conventional console. Xbox president Sarah Bond has hinted at this direction, referencing the recently launched and premium ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X handheld as indicative of Microsoft’s vision for the upcoming console. In a conversation with Mashable, Bond emphasized the high-end nature of the device, stating, “The next-gen console is going to be a very premium, very high-end curated experience.”

Microsoft has confirmed its commitment to developing a next-gen console following the Xbox Series X and S, recently solidifying an agreement with AMD to enhance its capabilities. The company promises “next-level performance, cutting-edge graphics, breakthrough gameplay, and unmatched compatibility,” ensuring that the new console will seamlessly integrate with users’ existing Xbox game libraries.

Bond has previously articulated the vision behind this console/PC hybrid, stating, “This is all about building you a gaming platform that’s always with you, so you can play the games you want across devices anywhere you want, delivering you an Xbox experience not locked to a single store or tied to one device.” This commitment to collaboration with the Windows team underscores Microsoft’s goal to position Windows as the premier platform for gaming.

As the gaming arena braces for competition, both Microsoft and Sony are reportedly gearing up for the release of their next-gen consoles in 2027. While the next-gen Xbox is charting a unique course, expectations suggest that the PS6 will adhere to a more traditional console model, likely offering exclusive titles akin to the current PS5 offerings.

In a notable shift, Microsoft has distanced itself from the concept of exclusivity, recently announcing the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved for PS5 in 2026. Bond remarked that the notion of video game exclusives tied to a single storefront has become “antiquated for most people,” making Halo’s transition to a rival platform less surprising.
