This update, aligned with the forthcoming One UI 9 Watch, promises a cleaner interface and streamlined navigation, making it easier for users to access the features they need.
Visual and Functional Enhancements
The most noticeable change will be the app’s visual refresh. Samsung is shifting from a stark black interface to a more inviting palette of soft blue and purple gradients, complemented by floating cards and a layout that mirrors the aesthetics of recent One UI versions. The app will now be organized into three main sections: Watch Faces, Home, and Settings, simplifying the search for specific features.
The Home tab is set to become a central hub for users. Instead of directing users immediately to settings, it will prominently display an image of the connected Galaxy Watch along with its battery level and estimated remaining battery life. Shortcuts for frequently adjusted settings—such as notifications, quick settings, tiles, and apps—will be easily accessible at the top, enhancing usability for those who often tweak these options.
Additionally, the watch face browser is receiving an upgrade. Users will now see the entire watch adorned with the selected face rather than flat previews, allowing for a more accurate assessment of how a watch face will appear on their specific model before installation.
Streamlined Settings and New Features
While much of the Settings menu retains its familiar structure, Samsung has refined its appearance with simpler monochrome icons and a more organized layout. Frequently used options, such as Find My Watch and the user guide, have been repositioned for quicker access. Other pages, including About Watch and Software Update, have also undergone visual enhancements, although the leaked build still contains placeholder graphics, indicating ongoing development.
Beyond the redesign, the leak reveals exciting new features that could redefine the Galaxy Watch experience. Among the most intriguing is the introduction of AI-generated Tiles. This feature may allow users to request customized Tiles that aggregate information relevant to them, such as weather updates, sports scores, breaking news, and fitness stats, all in one convenient location.
Another anticipated enhancement involves the Gemini voice assistant. The watch may soon feature a raise-to-talk function, enabling users to engage with Gemini simply by lifting their wrist. For users of Samsung’s rugged Ultra watches, additional features tailored for outdoor activities are in the works. These include trail-running tools with elevation tracking, waypoint saving, and route retracing capabilities for hikes, as well as dive-related features that activate at preset depths. While it’s unclear if these features will remain exclusive to the Ultra models, their outdoor focus suggests a targeted approach.
