Minecraft 26.2 Pre-Release 1

Today marks the unveiling of the first pre-release for version 26.2, a significant step forward as we transition into the final stages of development. As we move ahead, players can expect a series of bug fixes aimed at refining the overall experience. Notably, this pre-release departs from our usual Tuesday snapshot schedule, so we encourage everyone to stay tuned for upcoming updates.

In this pre-release, we have made the decision to remove the Peer-to-Peer connection feature that was introduced in a recent snapshot. This choice stems from our commitment to delivering a high-quality experience, as we felt the feature did not meet our standards for player satisfaction in its current iteration.

Known issues

  • The game may crash on systems lacking Vulkan support.
    • To work around this issue, players can edit the options.txt file. Locate the line <span class="MCEffectTextHighlightA”>preferredGraphicsBackend:”default” and change <span class="MCEffectTextHighlightA”>”default” to <span class="MCEffectTextHighlightA”>”opengl”.

Changes

Sulfur Cube mob

  • Small Sulfur Cubes have received an updated model and texture.
  • Unique hit and push sounds have been added for each archetype of the Sulfur Cube.

Sulfur Caves biome

  • The fog color in the Sulfur Caves has been updated, with plans for Bedrock to match this color in the future.
  • The maximum growth length of the Sulfur Spikes has been reduced.

Potent Sulfur

  • The continuous Geyser setup now requires a source Lava Block to erupt.

Sounds

  • Hurt and death sounds for one of the chicken sound variants have been updated.
  • Small Sulfur Cubes now emit sounds when fed with Slimeballs.

UI

  • The friend list button will now remain visible, even if the feature is disabled in the options.

Technical Changes

  • The Data Pack version has been updated to 106.1.
  • The Resource Pack version is now 88.0.

Server properties

  • New properties <span class="MCEffectTextHighlightA”>chat-spam-threshold-seconds and <span class="MCEffectTextHighlightA”>command-spam-threshold-seconds have been added, allowing for separate spam thresholds for chat and commands.
    • Both thresholds are set to 10 by default, which was the previous combined threshold for chat and command spam.
    • These thresholds determine the mechanism that automatically kicks players for excessive messaging.
    • The value indicates how many seconds of spamming a player must engage in to be kicked, with each message increasing the counter by one second.
    • The counter decreases once per tick (1/20th of a second), and a player will be kicked if their counter reaches the configured threshold.
    • Either threshold can be set to 0 to disable kicks for that type of spam.
    • Examples of message rates that would trigger a kick, given the default threshold of 10 include:
      • Sending 11 messages in 1 second.
      • Sending 14 messages in 2 seconds.
      • Sending 21 messages in 10 seconds.
