Hello Windows Insiders, today marks the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6690 (KB5065786) for those in the Dev Channel utilizing Windows 11, version 25H2. This update brings a variety of changes, improvements, and fixes, which are documented in two distinct categories: features that are gradually being rolled out to Insiders who have opted in for the latest updates, and those enhancements that are available to all within the Dev Channel. For further details, please refer to the Reminders section at the end of this announcement.
Changes and Improvements gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*
[Click to Do (Preview)]
The following changes and improvements are rolling out for Click to Do on Copilot+ PCs:
- Translation powered by Microsoft Copilot: A new feature allows users to translate on-screen text effortlessly using Microsoft Copilot through Click to Do. When text in a different language is selected, a translation suggestion will appear, facilitating a seamless translation experience. This feature is currently available for users with the new Copilot prompt box in Click to Do, which was introduced in the previous flight. Please note that this change is not yet accessible to Windows Insiders in the EEA (European Economic Area) or China.
[Taskbar & System Tray]
- Similar to the existing capability of sharing a window to Microsoft Teams by hovering over an app on the taskbar, this feature is now being tested with Microsoft Copilot. Users will see an option to share with Copilot when mousing over an opened app window, enabling quick conversations and insights through Copilot Vision based on the displayed app content.
[Desktop Spotlight]
- A new addition allows users to click on their desktop to access options such as “Learn more about this background” and “Next desktop background” when Windows Spotlight is selected as the desktop background under Settings > Personalization > Background.
[Settings]
- The account management experience has been refreshed for ease of use. The “Email & accounts” section is now renamed to “Your accounts,” providing a more unified approach to managing connections across Windows and applications.
Fixes gradually being rolled out to the Dev Channel with toggle on*
[File Explorer]
- An issue causing File Explorer to become unresponsive when a UNC server name was entered directly into the address bar has been resolved.
[Windows Update]
- A fix has been implemented for an issue that led to installation failures of the latest builds, previously resulting in error 0x80070002 for some Insiders.
[Audio]
- Audio issues experienced after recent updates should now be resolved. However, if problems persist, users are encouraged to provide feedback under Devices and Drivers > Audio and Sound in the Feedback Hub, including a trace using the “Capture the issue” option.
[Settings]
- Fixed an issue where the “Add an optional feature” option under Settings > System > Optional Features may not load when Administrator Protection was enabled.
Known issues
[Click to Do]
- Currently, launching Click to Do on the primary display via right-edge gesture results in swipe visuals appearing on the incorrect display. This matter is under investigation.
[Lock and login screens]
- An issue is being investigated where media controls may not appear on the lock screen in this build.
[Taskbar]
- [NEW] New animations on taskbar previews have been temporarily disabled due to interference with window sharing capabilities from previews. Updates will be provided when they are reinstated.
- [NEW] Several issues related to the “automatically hide the taskbar” feature are being addressed, including unexpected peeking of the system tray. We appreciate the feedback from Insiders regarding this matter.
[Search]
- [NEW] Some searches may yield unexpected text rather than the anticipated results and images.
[Windows Studio Effects]
- For certain external webcams, enabling “Use Windows Studio Effects” may lead to a camera preview failure due to compatibility issues with camera firmware. A resolution is forthcoming in a future update. Users affected by this issue are advised to disable Windows Studio Effects in the camera settings.
[For developers]
- PIX on Windows is currently unable to play back GPU captures in this OS version. A new PIX release addressing this issue is expected by the end of September. Affected users can utilize the “Send Feedback” button in PIX or reach out via the DirectX Discord server for assistance with private builds.
[Settings]
- Placeholder text in the Settings search box may appear misaligned vertically.
- [NEW] There have been reports of Settings crashing when accessing drive information under Settings > System > Storage, which also affects drive information access from File Explorer properties.
[Xbox Controllers]
- Some Insiders are encountering issues with Xbox Controllers via Bluetooth causing their PCs to bugcheck. To resolve this, users can uninstall the driver named “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” via Device Manager.
Reminders for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel
- Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel receive updates based on Windows 11, version 25H2 through an enablement package (Build 26220.xxxx).
- Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology, beginning with a subset of Insiders and gradually expanding as feedback is monitored.
- For those wishing to be among the first to receive features gradually rolled out to you, turning ON the toggle for the latest updates via Settings > Windows Update* is recommended. Features will be rolled out to all users with the toggle on over time. If the toggle remains off, new features will be released gradually as they become ready.
- It is important to note that features and experiences included in these builds may not ultimately be released, as various concepts are tested based on feedback. Features may evolve, be removed, or replaced without being released beyond Windows Insiders. Some may appear in future Windows releases when they’re ready.
- Localization for features in active development may not be complete, and users are encouraged to report any localization issues via the Feedback Hub.
- Some accessibility features may not function with features like Recall and Click to Do while in preview with Windows Insiders.
- As the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths, there may be instances where features and experiences debut in the Beta Channel first.
- For a comprehensive overview of which build is in which Insider channel, please refer to Flight Hub.
Thanks,
Amanda & Brandon
