The Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program is designed to keep your Windows 10 PC secure after support ends on October 14, 2025. ESU provides monthly critical and important security updates to ensure your device remains protected during the transition. However, it is not intended as a long-term solution, as it does not include new features or technical support.
For the first time, personal Windows 10 PCs can enroll in the ESU program to receive critical security updates for one year post-support. We are introducing additional free enrollment options and a straightforward process to get started:
- For Individuals: An enrollment wizard will be accessible through notifications and in Settings, simplifying the process to enroll in ESU directly from your Windows 10 PC. Options include:
- Using Windows Backup to sync settings to the cloud—at no additional cost.
- Redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points—at no additional cost.
- Paying USD (local pricing may vary).
Once an option is selected and the on-screen steps followed, your PC will be automatically enrolled. ESU coverage for personal devices will extend from October 15, 2025, through October 13, 2026. The enrollment wizard is currently available in the Windows Insider Program and will roll out to Windows 10 customers in July, with broader availability anticipated by mid-August.xiii
