Mesh, the innovative relationship manager and personal CRM acquired by Automattic last year, has now made its debut on Android devices. This software empowers users to privately visualize and manage their personal and professional networks, enabling them to add notes to contacts and receive timely reminders for outreach.
Enhanced Features for Android Users
In a bid to optimize user experience, the company has tailored the Mesh app for Android, integrating essential platform features such as split-screen and pop-up views. This enhancement allows users to seamlessly access Mesh while multitasking in other applications, including messaging and email. Furthermore, the app supports keyboard shortcuts for foldable devices and tablets, offers in-app search capabilities, and features home screen widgets that harmonize with the user’s wallpaper through Material You colors. Real-time synchronization across devices ensures that users remain connected wherever they are.
The future of Mesh appears promising, with potential plans to integrate it more closely with Automattic’s all-in-one messaging platform, Beeper. This app facilitates connections across various platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram, Signal, Messenger, X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and Google Messages.
Currently, there is a degree of interoperability between Mesh and Beeper; users can draft messages within Beeper or navigate directly to a Mesh user’s profile via deep links. As the company looks ahead, it aims to incorporate additional AI features designed to enhance productivity in managing personal relationships.
“We’re thinking a lot about how AI can help you be a better friend and foster stronger work and personal relationships,” said Mesh co-founder Zachary Hamed in a recent interview with TechCrunch. He highlighted the challenge faced by users with extensive networks, noting that managing connections across multiple platforms can be overwhelming without assistance.
Currently in early access, Mesh’s Nexus AI offers users the ability to navigate their networks with ease. Users can inquire about connections at specific companies, locate individuals in particular cities, or identify those with expertise in certain topics. The company is also exploring AI-driven features that would enable a voice-activated, hands-free experience, alongside an enhanced business card scanning capability.
Importantly, Mesh prioritizes user privacy, stating that personal information stored within the app is not shared or utilized for advertising purposes. The product operates on a subscription model, allowing free access for up to 1,000 contacts, with higher tiers available for unlimited contacts and additional features.
While the prospect of a bundled subscription with Beeper or other Automattic products is on the horizon, no official announcements have been made as of yet. Presently, approximately 70% of Mesh’s users leverage the app for business-related purposes. Co-founder Matthew Achariam notes that Mesh appeals particularly to executives managing larger teams or those with a close-knit network to maintain. However, the company remains mindful of the consumer market as well.
“The beauty of serving business users is that the same functionalities apply to individual consumers. Every feature we consider must cater to both segments,” Achariam explained.
Mesh (formerly known as Clay) will be available for download on Google Play for phones, tablets, and foldable devices, offering a free version with in-app purchases.
